The Nickel Sandwich Grill — Restaurant in Houston

Let's start with the positives. 1. The poboy... a bit smaller than in use to, but it was very good. The greens, shrimp fresh, the bread soft yet crisp. Would definitely get it again. 2. The burger. THE BURGER! now TBH I only planned to take a bite so I could review it. I wolfed it down. Not gonna lie. I didn't expect it to be that good. Again, FRESH greens, bread soft. I think potato bread. Don't quote me. (I was too focused on everything else.) The meat had great flavor. Nothing was overstated, very well balanced. I demolished that thing, and I got a double. 9 out of 10. Now for the not so good. Dirty rice has a good smoky flavor, but it's kind of basic. Nothing else really stood out about it. Warning I know I am a bit salt sensitive, so take this with well a grain of salt. The wings and fries were heavily salted, which distracted me from really tasting them. Wasn't a fan. Boudin balls were a bit flour heavy, IMO. I know it take a lot to keep them from falling apart... I understand that. Outside of that... they were ok. Nothing stood out about them. Would I go back..... if I'm in the area, YES. There are a few other things on the menu I would like to try. As always, this I'd just 1 fat Boyz opinion. Try it for yourself you might like it. I was impressed. It was hot outside but the screened patio had good fans that actually made it bearable and the seats, tables were all clean. So was the property and from what I could see also the inside. The young lady inside acknowledged my presence until she could get to me. I ordered the Hamburger which I almost walked from because of $8. price and it came with nothing else but right now prices are high everywhere so decided to stay and support. The gentleman who took my order was courteous and friendly explaining how it was made and I waited about 10 minutes for EXCELLENT well seasoned burger. Lettuce, onion all fresh on warm bun. Sorry I dont have photo but I was hungry and it was so good. Just go get one.

05/23/25 DID NOT CARE for the 1/2lb of Brisket which had no outer char, stringy, slightly mushy and pretty obvious it spent time in a crock pot or slow cooker. $17. wasted on that one but given to a homeless person. Will stick to the burgers...

Words cannot describe how disgusted and upset I feel right now. One of my team members brought me lunch today from the Nickel Sandwich Grill. I was beyond excited as I had never been to this place and the food smelled absolutely amazing. Well that excitement turned to pure Sickness as I was eating my food I came across a false nail. I instantly start to vomit. I am beyond grossed out again words cannot describe how disgusting and unbalanced I feel from this experience.

Honestly, I was too sick and not in the right mindset to even call the restaurant to complain, so a friend did. When she called the restaurant to explain what happened the manager's response was give me the people's names who are sick and I will give them free food for 2 days. Are you freaking serious!!!! I do not want nothing from this restaurant ever again.

I honestly don't even know what I want them to do or if there is anything they can do to make me feel better. Every time I think about it I gag. I am more disgusted than upset my mind is playing...
