I'm usually not one to complain, but my experience here at 1951 was terrible. This is the first one star review that I have ever written, so I will do my best to explain my experience.
I came with a group of 8 on a weekend, but we had a reservation so getting seated in a timely manner was no problem. This is when all of our problems started.
First of all, we didn't even see our waitress for at least 15 minutes. It wasn't a very busy night, so we were perplexed as to why the service was so slow. When we finally were able to order our drinks, it ended up causing more problems. Three of the people at my my table were unable to order the drinks that they wanted. Two of those drinks were on their specials menu, but they were "all out" of the particular liquor that it took to make that drink (both bourbon and Crown Royal). Also they couldn't make a Moscow Mule because they didn't have ginger beer. Anyways, after we finally placed our drink order, it took us another 20 minutes just to get them.
After the waitress brought out drinks, she said that she would be back momentarily to take our order, but it took another 15 minutes for her to come back. When we were finally able to place our order, I wish I would have know that I was in for a long haul.
Fast forward about 50 minutes and our food finally starts to trickle out of the kitchen. The soup that I got was actually pretty good, but I wasn't expecting it to be the highlight of my entire meal. My entree (prime rib) was decent, but not all that great. The real disappointment came to the two unlucky souls at my table who were unfortunate enough to order the $30 steaks. These steaks were absolutely horrendous. I don't think that I have ever tried a drier steak in my entire life. I probably wouldn't have fed that steak to a dog. A few of the people at my table tried it and they all agreed.
After eating this disappointment of a meal, our waitress thought that it would be a great idea to add 20% gratuity for her horrible service. (Also had to wait another 15 minutes to get our bills).

Read moreService was good by Todor. The meal was not at its best. We came in right after prime time with an hour and a half to go. Had Friday market combo with baked potato. Basically some reg shrimp with what seemed to be (meh, at best) a light chicken batter? The perch was tasty. It was in a, what seems to be a sorta panko, like a factory would make in mass, not light nor crispy, just on the verge yum if the frier's oil weren't all used up from Fish Fry Friday. Kinda like a better version of bread crumbs and flour dredge with an egg wash and then shallow oil fried in vegetable oil. The haddock was great. I made sure that it was the last taste of the meal, even though it had lost its heat, and the crispness had pulled the steamy moisture from the fillet. Tartar sauce wasn't needed nor wanted. The potato was, sadly, just a potato. Got sour cream and butter that came with it. The skin was thin and it was... done all the way through. Reminded me of a potato that was boiled then held for just a bit too long in a heating tray. The before meal bread basket was 4 hard crusted dinner rolls, several long dinner crackers coated with sesame and a pinch of dill, and plain ole butter and also butter witha light herb and garlic mix, and I mean light. Oh! I forgot the soup that comes with dinner. I had wanted the clam chowder but it was bottom of the barrel scrape'ns from after Fish Fry Friday. So the cup of French onion was brought. It was salty like you boiled off a 1/4 of the water from the industrial sized Lipton mix and scooped the bottom without a full stir. French onion soup is served with cheese on top as a standard yet... No cheese for soup!!! Nice big rings of onion though.
Midwest nice ratings: Filled me up. More than I needed. I appreciate not having to make dinner. Worth the walk from...

The multiple serving tables ..fruit, prime rib, dessert and hot foods ... were all fresh, beautifully arranged ..and separated by food types... which provided easy access by the hundreds being served.
From cocktails at the two well-appointed, separate pubs .. to being seated at a prearranged, reserved table... to lining up to make our choices....ALL was VERY clean, beautifully polished, & well organized !!
Dozens & dozens ! of Hosts, Bartenders, Servers, Kitchen staff, Chefs, and Tidy-up Crew were ALL hard at work, attentive, friendly and "worked as a unified Team" to provide clients with a fine Holiday Feast ! Delicious foods: cold for cold foods... toasty warm for hot foods... and foods at room temperatures, as required. Each detail arranged neatly ..looking "too good to eat"!
Tables were spaced appropriately for ease in the up-and-down of going for yet more food! Carpets were very clean having been well-vacuumed. Tables were draped in fine cloth coverings, napkins & substantial silverware for that elegant touch! Tables were attractively set and readied with plenty of ice cold water pitchers.
Well DONE!! Both the "1951" Restaurant & Pub area & the Rock Garden Banquet area have "Classy" decor, comfortable, attractive furnishings and are most worthy of a spot at the top of your "fine dining" experience list!! Location: Comfort Inn & Suites, east off Hwy 29 Exit off US Hwy 41. Taylor St.
The rest of the year, ...one might also enjoy 1951 Restaurant as an example: the wonderful Fisherman.s Seafood dinner, specials of the day, or one of their creative and flavorful horsdouerves, such as Tuscan Scallops or Loaded Chips in the Pub where there.s Professional Hosts and Bartenders on duty. Enjoy!
