I wasn't expecting to find a taste of NOLA in my backyard. Wow were we pleasantly surprised. They were a little crowded but it didn't feel like it. The staff and owner worked together to make sure they answered our questions and got drinks to the table right away. We ordered the fried calamari where we looked over the menu. It was very good, almost too lightly battered and fried yet cooked to perfection. It wasn't chewy or slimy... But just right. The catfish was a huge portion over a healthy bed of rice and the gumbo topper was excellent. The catfish was very crispy yet still flakey. A special was the grouper which we tried as grilled with a blackened seasoning and fries, which were also seasoned. The grouper was also excellent and cooked just right with just enough flakiness yet enough firmness that it didn't fall apart with every bite. The other side we had was the sautéed spinach. It was also very good with almost an Asian restaurant flavor. Not sure how it could have been done slightly different to give it a southern flare. All in all it's an excellent place and we can't wait to go back again! Well done Sands.

I joined friends for a birthday brunch yesterday and felt like this establishment played in my face. I ordered the shrimp and lobster omelette and it was disgusting. They actually put a piece of sliced cheese on top of the omelette. The inside of the omelette had undercooked and unseasoned shrimp with a clump of unseasoned lobster meat (that seemed more like canned crab meat) thrown in with 4-5 pieces of peppers and onions. When I say NO SEASONING WHATSOEVER! My friend was unhappy with her plate and asked for the owner. When I showed him the cheese slice on top of the omelette, he stated that we had to think about the demographics for the location!!! Then proceeded to tell us that he’s only been in business for 2 years. None of that negates the fact of what I was served. He even looked surprised when I showed him the omelette, and stated “it wasn’t supposed to be like that.” The potatoes were bathed in salt and we were told that they are fried in chicken grease! However, my table agreed that it tasted like it was fried in fish/ seafood grease! I like to support, but this was utterly disgusting!

I am glad that i gave Sands another try & didn't completely give up on them. I tried Sands when they 1st opened & I wasn't impressed because of how slow they were & they were very busy. It was on a Saturday night. The food was good back then (catfish on a bed of gumbo), but the seafood boil my husband got back then could use more flavor & the pototoes needed to be cooked longer. I went back today for the 1st time @ 12pm, as soon as they opened for lunch so that I wouldn't have to deal with a crowd. It was only us & 2 other tables there. They had 1 waitress, she was somewhat delayed @ 1st, but nowhere as bad as when I 1st went about a year ago. Once she placed our order, everything went pretty quickly & she kept our glasses refilled. She was very attentive @ that point. The food was delicious & i would go back. I had the fried catfish, shrimp & calamari platter with seasoned fries. My friend had the catfish on the plate of gumbo. I would most definitely go back, but only during lunch when they 1st open to avoid the crowd.

UPDATE 5 Sep 23: Based on the owners comments, I added a 4th star to the rating. It isn’t often owners choose to take action to improve. It is also possible places have an off day….I will go again as I think my first experience is more reflective on what can and will be for this establishment.

Sands Seafood and Sports is a positive new restaurant in Huber Heights. Employees are excited to be there and the music still pops in a relaxing environment with sports in the background for those who want to stay abreast of scores. I still highly recommend this up and coming restaurant. ———————— UPDATE: 3 Sep 23: Visited this restaurant again. Out of seafood and corn chowder; out of sweet tea; out of vinegar; out of club soda; out of cocktail glasses. Po boy shrimp sandwich served with mayonnaise….not the remoulade sauce, crab cakes were average, shrimp signature dish should have been in Po boy as this dish was great as appetizer. Service was ok; cocktails not great. I think this place has promise but needs to improve in service and food quality. ———————— My wife and I visited this place on July 14th and was pleasantly surprised. The food was tasty, well-portioned, and a great value. While they are still in the “soft-open” phase with a limited menu, everything we tried was great. From the gumbo, salmon bites, spring rolls, grilled shrimp platter and homemade sauces, all were well prepared and very good.

The dining area was well planned with large TVs displaying a variety of sports with a superb, funky, easy-on-the-ear sound track for any listener. I WILL go back to sample their full menu at the end of August.

I highly recommend you try this fantastic Huber Heights...

First, let me say: WOW. I grew up in the VA Beach area, so (fresh) great seafood was a staple of my up bringing. When I say WOW, I mean it in the best possible way for a SEAFOOD RESTAURANT West of Richmond VA.

This is the first time I've been to a seafood restaurant (in Ohio) where I didn't feel like everything was over buttered, over seasoned, frozen, or microwaved AND cost less than Warped Wing for 4 people (2 of which were kids). The food was insanely good, I just wish there was so much more in the portions (like 1lbs of shrimp vs 1/2lbs; but to be fair they are the full sized shrimp, not the tiny little ones).

Kids loved their popcorn shrimp (not fried! Looked like it might've been microwaved, but alas). There was a wide selection for the kids to choose from, so they didn't feel trapped into the typical kids food. My only recommendation to the @Owner is to include a fresh veggie/fruit option (steamed broccoli, sliced apples, etc).

It was a busy night and the place was packed, but we were able to sit right away (the wonderful Hostess, who is also the owners Niece set a Reserved sign on our table for us while I went and got the kiddos/wife). Because of a party that sat before us, it took a little bit of time to get my wife and I seafood boils, but we didn't notice (watched the Reds Game) and it was well worth the wait. Our server was Gracie and she was top-notch - kind, hard working, busting her butt to take care of all her tables plus a party, and always made sure our glasses were full and the kids were taken care if.

Highly recommend this place for a great meal - the menu looked incredibly appetizing (My son recommends Garlic Bread be...

First time hitting up Sands Seafood won't be the last. My wife and I and another couple tried it at about 4:30pm last Friday, wasn't bad at all with seating availability. Here is what we can review:

Gumbo... house made, awsome !!

Shrimp spring rolls... order of 4, really, really good.

Seafood Alfredo... good portion, house made sauce, I had shrimp and chicken. amazing !

Saulted spinach.... fresh leaf spinach seasoned perfectly, I dumped on my Alfredo, freakin delicious !

Cajun crab cake...1/2 lb of fresh crab meat and minimal binder ( bread and vegs ) in one cake, awsome!

Fish and fries... large portion of 2 catfish filets, My catfish buddy said it was really good as was the Cajun fries.

Chicken tenders and fries... were, well..tenders and fries, nothing Wow, but they were OK,

The food others around us ordered looked pretty amazing too, the seafood boil and poor boy sandwiches especially. Anyway...

Myron was one of our servers, (we hit the shift change) he was very knowledgeable about the food and it's preparation, he was great as was all the staff the we had contact with. Prices were very fair for the portion size of all our meals. One thing I didn't care for though, was the paperless bill, Personal preference, but i like to see an itemized check that i can look over in today quick changing prices. The server comes to your table with a tablet and a swipe square and tells you your total. Our bills were both corret, thats not what I'm saying, like I said, just presonal preference

The Beer was cold, the food was great ! the place was clean, the prices were fair and the service was awsome, that's a 5 Star joint in my book.

Keep up the...
