Ahh MOTHER's, I was roaming the beach towns and getting thirsty when I spotted MOTHER's postage stamp sized establishment and thought it was quaint so I wandered in for a beer.
What I discovered on the inside belied the small size of the actual building. The hospitality and friendliness were HUGE!
I immediately took a liking to the Barkeep in that she had a wonderful sense of humor and could handle even the raunchy, lewd, and off color jokes, I proceeded to tell her. Political correctness was not a consideration and so I drug up my worst best jokes.
As more patrons came in the Barkeep would ask me to retell the joke about this or that and as the day progressed I found myself spewing a constant stream of vulgar humor that the regulars really seemed to enjoy.
Needless to say I was kept in a constant supply of ice cold beer at no cost to myself as more and more patrons bought me another one. As the evening ensued I knew I had drank enough and that I needed to take my leave . As I did so I was invited to come back soon!
So the very next day I again wandered into MOTHER's figuring what the heck perhaps yesterday was just a fluke. I mean how rare is it to find a group of people that really do not give a rat's ass about political correctness in So Cal? So once again I proceeded to tell my jokes and all the while the free beer's continued to come my way.
Finally as evening once again arrived and I announced my departure, I was given a MOTHER's BEACH BAR Tee shirt and invited to come back anytime.
Now at this time I do have to say that the beer was ice cold, and that the food was AWESOME, but the really cool thing about MOTHER's are the people! No one was so thin skinned that they were, "OFFENDED", oooh, by my type of humor. They were all capable of being able to glean the humor from the jokes and allowing the ethnicity or explicate content to flow right around themselves and dissipate. People that are offended do not buy beer for the offensive!
SO if open mindedness is a virtue to be cherished, take the time to visit MOTHER's. You will enjoy the drink, food, music, and most of all the people! I will be back someday myself, Ronster...
Read moreThis is my second visit to mothers and like the first time I had an awesome time. My neighbor likes to come here and ride his bike because it is kind of a Harley friendly place and they cone off spots in the front so bikes can park there.
The inside of the bar is really small and the bar itself probably sits about 12 people. There are a few tables in the bar as well (probably 5) that site 2 to 3 people a piece so it is a real cozy situation for sure.
There's a separate room in the back that has a pool table but I have come twice on weekend days and it is covered up in preparation for other events. This last time they were have some kind of get together around 6pm and they were staging all the food and cups and stuff like that.
One of the funny things about this bar is the way they decorate the ceiling. There are tons of random panties and bras hanging from the ceiling along with other stuff like $1 bills. Not sure what the deal is there but it ads to the dive factor of the bar and improves it.
If your on a bike and want to stop in for a quick drink on pch then this is the spot. I am not sure where you park if you have a car but I am sure its probably not...
Read moreThis place is a sunset beach staple. Been going here for 25 years - well before it was redone. Our band played there when we got out of high school, and back then it was pretty rowdy. Peanut shells on the ground, the bar was falling apart, and the jukebox had CDs. While I miss the old "Mother's Beer & Wine", they did a nice job restoring it, and you can always count on a cold beer, a friendly bar staff, and cool patrons when you arrive. Peanuts...
