Woods Deli — Restaurant in Huntington Park

I came to their soft opening this past Friday and wasn't sure what to expect since I am not the biggest sandwhich-eater lol. Upon entering, you're greeted by a huge mural that sets the ambiance nicely. It's a small, but well furnished hole in the wall with comfortable seating if you choose to sit and eat. I ended up ordering 4 different sandwiches to share with friends, which all turned out to be very tasty and unique for the area. The ingredients are all far better quality than your average subway, while still being familiar and flavorful. the pretzel bun turkey and cheese sandwich was my favorite since it included avocado and arugula to balance all of the rich flavors. All of the sandwiches were absolutley PACKED with the selected deli meats, which was nice. First, any place that has Mortadella gets points from me. I had the Italian Stallion. It was so much better than any old hot Italian sub. The meat is lightly grilled and heats up the provolone nicely. Not melted, but softened. In the end though, I think the true highlights of this sandwich are the pickled red onions and the healthy amount of arugula. The Italian meats are very fatty, so the vinegary onions cut the richness very well. As does the arugula. They don't serve just a few wilted leaves on the sandwich, mine had probably 3/4 inch of fresh crispy arugula. That may seem like too much, but it's perfect. I drove out from the south bay try out this new deli. I can say I wasn't not disappointed. I have been to deli's all over wine country, Boston, New York, and here in LA. One thing that distinguishes a great deli is they don't cut corners. They use only high quality cuts and the freshest ingredients. The person behind the counter is always knowledgable and ready to provide recommendation if it the person's first time. This place checks off every box. I highly recommend their Woody Special, it enough to feed two people so show up hungry.
