Familiar, but somehow better.
While we plan to make repeat visits to assess if Chin's can maintain consistency, our first foray proved hugely successful. We placed an order given some extraordinary Grubhub reviews, believing this would be an ok risk.
First, the mediocre bits you'll find with any Chinese food place: calling and ordering involves small struggles to communicate, some polite thank yous, all as expected. The delivery also proved typical, with the driver struggling to understand American intercom systems. Everything was polite, friendly, and slightly awkward.
However, the quality of our meal was a huge departure from "normal" Chinese-American food. Everything tasted familiar, but was all perfectly cooked, impeccably seasoned, and seemed just a little bit better than anything we've ever had before. The basil in the fried rice was a nice hint of someone trying to add small touches of creativity in an otherwise bland industry. Beef with peppers and onions was missing the bland overcooked features we've come to expect from the average Chinese restaurant: it tasted fresh, with veg that wasn't mushy and over-soy-sauced.
If you're like us and you stopped eating the American version of Chinese food because every restaurant crafts the same bland salty mess, you might want to give...
Read moreHave ordered from here for over 20 years. I’m sorry to say they have gone from best in the area to mediocre. I always get the same thing, this past time I saw a change to their menu offering my favorite dish in a whitemeat only version. It was awful. I thought I got the wrong order, it looked like sweet and sour chicken, mushy breaded chicken. So I called and said I ordered General tso and was told that’s what I got. Every general tso chicken I have ordered in the past, at every Chinese restaurant has always been crispy, with a spicy sauce. The person told me if I wanted crispy, I had to ask for the sauce on the side. Baffled, I said ok, and she had another delivered. I swear it’s breaded sweet and sour chicken, no spice, no red peppers, nothing. The driver said that I ordered whitemeat general tso, if I wanted the spicy, crispy I had to order the regular general tso. I give up. Sorry to see it...
Read moreChin's Kitchen, the food was fresh, and the food was not greasy, the brown sauce was delicious, which I think is the base of any American style Chinese food. They have great chicken wings, which really had a cooked at home taste. The thing I liked most about the wings were the size. They were large whole wings, compared to the competition. I was disappointed with the fried jumbo shrimp, I asked were they fresh and breaded in the store? I was told yes, when in reality they were of the frozen variety. They also have wing portions in different flavors, the General Tso's flavoured wings were good. I also had chicken lo mein, it was close to mom's chicken soup in flavor. Keep that in mind if you use chicken soup as a cold remedy. If you live, within a five mile radius of Chin's, it is your best option for...
