Fire Wok styles itself quite a bit like Mei Wei; I'm not sure which one came first. There are a variety of entrees, mostly standard American Chinese (General Tso's, Ginger, etc). Like Mei Wei, you can pick your protein, which helps dictate the cost of your meal.
We had Mongolian Beef, Soy Ginger Chicken, a cup of egg drop soup, and spicy Korean wings. The presentation of the food was definitely a highlight - it looked very pretty.
The Mongolian beef was definitely the best dish, but was still only met with a rating of "good."
The egg drop soup was decent, too; I prefer it to be a little thicker, and this one had corn kernels in it. Never seen that before - the jury is out on if I liked it or not.
The soy ginger chicken was really weak. The chicken was pretty clearly lower quality meat - very chewy and stringy. The veggies in the dish were a little under cooked and tough, but were probably the best part. The sauce had very little flavor and tasted more like straight oil out of the pan or wok. I stopped eating it a few bites in and got fast food on my way home.
The Korean spicy wings were the greatest disappointment. My boyfriend said the taste was indescribable but "very bad." They did smell weird, for sure - burnt and oddly chemical. I don't like wings so I didn't try them.
The price is pretty high for the portion sizes, quality, and for the fact that you have to get your own...
Read moreA coworker and I were on this side of town and decided to grab something quick to eat. I had never been to Fire Wok Asian Bistro before, but he said let's try it. We were still in time for the Lunch Menu which had a lot of options available. I had the brown rice, Mongolian beef and the hot and sour soup. The server was the same person who took our order and she was prompt to bring our soups to the table. My soup was ok but not the best I've had and definitely not the worst. The meal was brought out after our soups were completed so timing was perfect. I loved the taste of the Mongolian beef. There was a good amount of sauce in the bowl to mix with the rice. By the end of the meal I was full and was satisfied with the meal that cost around $8.00! If I'm down on that side of town again, I'll definitely make...
Read moreMeranda was our only point of contact, and she was amazing! Her menu knowledge and helpful spirit were on display as my girl and I ordered our first delicious Fire Wok dinner. See Meranda, below right, with a colleague.
And it is in the hope that the owner and manager see this that I add this footnote: These young ladies never once checked their phones, and they looked very happy to be there. I loved the combination meat and delicious rice that Meranda helped me choose, and my girlfriend was equally pleased with her orange chicken and brown rice. 2 egg rolls, 2 egg drop soup, both delicious and both chosen with the help of Meranda. We enjoyed hot tea to drink. We ate about 5:15 pm today, August 5. Scott Stiles, Google Maps Local Guide, Level 6, and contributor...
