Have been wanting to try Ike’s Kitchen for some time now and finally made it there today. Although I’ve never had Nigerian food before I like trying new thing. Particularly food. Did some research and called in a to go order for okra soup and pounded yam swallow. I didn’t realize from the menu that I would be offered a choice of meats with this. I selected chicken. When I arrived I saw the daily special was coconut rice with fried cabbage and plantains. Decided I should probably order that as well. My original order was ready when I arrived but I had to wait for the second one to be prepared. This turned out to be a godsend and a lot of fun. Everyone is so friendly! There were two people working and they both greeted me and spoke with me during my wait. A gentleman named Peter who was there for lunch took his time to explain the various soups on the menu for me. This was pretty lucky as the menu is different than what we normally see in Huntsville. Thanks Peter! When my second order was ready I was gifted a drink for my wait which was unnecessary but appreciated. Everything was delicious! Eating with swallow was not difficult to learn. There are YouTube videos where people show you how but you can just watch the other people eating and pick it up. I have seen several comments complaining about the portions served and I don’t find them justified. My okra soup and swallow filled me up and I am not a lightweight eater. Was able to taste the rice and cabbage but it’s going to be for tomorrow. You will get plenty of food here. If you’re thinking of visiting Ike’s Kitchen for the first time the menu may seem pretty daunting. Lots of words you’ve probably never seen before and lots of questions. Nigeria is not in America and Ike’s Kitchen doesn’t serve standard American food. Never fear! Just go in and ask questions. They are very friendly and helpful and things will work out fine. Eating here was a new experience for me but I will definitely be back to enjoy and support this local business. Really looking forward to trying the other soups and learning about this West African food! It’s kind of an...
Read moreCame in here today literally reminded me of why I never wanted to come back to this place this place not only is disgusting because the owner has a horrible attitude claims he makes everything fresh but that egusi and peanut soup was so watery it was best to drink it, I know it was recycled. The fufu was stuck to foil instead of using plastic wrap. 2 uneatable soups ONE fufu I promise you'll never see another dollar from me in life. This was the worse and i mean worse african food ive ever had in my life. Had the nerve to bag my food seal it and walk me to the door. Guess so he could get me out the restaurant and activate the NO REFUND POLICY posted on his board. This place is a negative zero and definitely not a respectable african food experience. DONT waste your hard earned...
Read morePrices are ridiculous! Why would i pay $14.99 for a plate of rice only to get a tiny portion delivered to me in a black nylon. Least brand up your bags and plate first of and reduce your prices to $8.99 or $9.99. I have been to several Nigerian restaurants in Georgia and they don't hike up their fees just because you are the only Nigerian restaurant in Huntsville. As a start up restaurant, Your prices are ridiculous!!!!!!!!!
Major restaurants like panda express are big restaurants in the game for their branding and most importantly for their friendly price. Please do better and quit trying to screw people that are only trying to engage your culture. Nigerian meals are one of the best...
