At first glance, the prices and atmosphere make this place appear great. These are just as deceiving as the lies of a politician. These are just a coverup for the fact that the prices are nothing more than an evil money making scheme. The profit margin is so impossibly high that I must give some credit to whoever owns this place. I went with my friends, excited for the Mardi Gras Overlay. We ordered our food and sat down. Nothing bad yet... Then we go to get a drink. I ordered a Shirley Temple, which only consist of sprite and grenadine. What I instead received was a cup full to the brim with ice and maybe a shot's worth of sprite. For that, I was only charged... $5 This is outrageous. If I asked for a cup of ice, it probably would have been free. So then, what am I even paying for??? This was just one example of the money making scheme. Then we actually get our food I ordered the gumbo, which was $10. For this, I got maybe half a ladle full of bland gumbo, and half of that was rice! Gumbo was intentionally created to be a cheap meal, yet here, this place goes with complete disregard for the history. I digress. We also got one 8$ order of beignets for the table. For this price, we were expecting either a decent number of beignets, or large beignets. What we instead received were 3 small beignets, each about the size of domino. In raw ingredients alone, this may be amounted to 50 cents. Even Disneyland is cheaper! Its 4.99 for three there! The profit markup is insanely high!! Add to this, the fact that we had to pay and a high tip before being served, and before receiving our food. Had I been given the bill after receiving our food and interacting with the staff, I would have flat out refused to pay. I wish I got my money back, because there was literally nothing about this experience that was worth a dime of my time or money. And I know that If I didn't pay, the company would not even be losing any money with how insane their profit is. Overall: small portions + huge prices + shoddy service + deceptive business practices = unhappy customers who will never return unless its to...
Read moreThe Camp is a cool place to hang out for young adults or folks with families. There's a coffee shop, a couple of permanent food trucks, and a bar. The food from the Camp's primary truck (the fire truck) is pretty solid, generic American food. We tried the nachos and the sliders on a recent visit and enjoyed them. Still gotta try Superhero Chefs (more gourmet southern style offerings) and Tamarind Island Grill (Caribbean food!). The drinks are also enjoyable, though a touch expensive in my opinion. They are often served in novelty cups, so that's rather fun.
The Camp is very close to MidCity, so it's easy to stop over there for food or shopping needs too.
They run markets through the warmer months, and also often have pop up themed bars and events during holiday seasons.
We recently made reservations and attended Miracle at MidCity, which is a Christmas themed pop up bar. It was $75 for a reservation, which got us a charcuterie board for 4 and milk and cookies. The food was good and I guess we were guaranteed a spot, though that price ultimately stung for what we got - at least in my view. Still, we had a fun time and I'd probably go again, but just take my chances on a table and buy my own food/drink rather than blow that much on reservations.
Looking forward to trying some of the other trucks as well as visiting during...
Read moreThe food is delicious! You have to scan a QR code to get to the limited menu... Which was quite a difficult experience. Some people couldn't get the QR code to scan properly, there was terrible cell service, some of us couldn't get our credit cards to load to pay for food, and it was just overall very glitchy. We finally all got it to work after several attempts and 30 minutes. They have a lot of great Mardi Gras drink options right now, but me and another friend got a mocktail. I was glad they had the options, but two different bartenders made our (exact same) drinks completely differently. Mine was smaller, with fewer ingredients, and very boring. Hers was jazzed up with all kinds of garnishes and different ingredients and was much larger. We paid the same price but two different bartenders made the same thing completely differently --frustrating. We had paid in advance for a reservation of a little pavilion for a birthday party. It's really cute they have little warmers. The atmosphere is pretty great, and the live band they have is really good! Overall, we've had a really good time, but the ordering food process is really difficult and the bartender thing had me a little frustrated. But, overall, good experience and...
