I don't often give 5 star ratings, especially not on first visits and especially not to chains (which this is technically a chain), but...Tous les Jours absolutely knocked my socks off!
Tous les Jours is a French-Asian bakery. The franchise began in South Korea and has a large number of stores worldwide, and has more than 70 locations in the US. This is the first location in Alabama.
Located in MidCity near Kamado Ramen and behind Wahlburgers, this cute little bakery seems a great fit for the spot. Street parking is a little funky (angle-in only lest you risk a ticket) so I chose to park in the very large lot in front of Wahlburgers and just make the short walk over.
Inside, I was greeted by a beautifully modern shop. They were quite busy, as most newly opened businesses tend to be in Huntsville, but the line moved at a reasonable pace. You start by the entry with a tray and a pair of tongs to select your own goods. It reminds me very much of Asian bakeries in much larger cities like Atlanta. So excited to have a similar place at home!
The selection of goods is truly impressive and honestly? I'm not mad about the prices either, especially for the quality of goods. They also have calories listed on the description card of each item, which is an awesome (if occasionally upsetting, lol) bonus.
They also serve lattes and a couple other drinks but I didn't indulge this time. I was happy with the service I received -- many staff members were working hard to rush out more fresh pastries and everyone seemed happy to be there.
My haul for this first visit included milk cream bread, a kimchi croquette, a curry croquette, a garlic and cheese croissant, some kind of mocha/coffee bun, and a prepackaged cheese cake stick.
Everything was really, really good. I have a hard time settling on a favorite! The croissant had some kind of honey butter glaze going on and had layers upon layers of flaky pastry. The curry croquette wasn't spicy (not that I would've minded) but was full of delightful warming flavors and sprinkled with sesame seeds. The kimchi croquette was probably my least favorite item, but it was still delicious, with a faintly cheesy taste to the bread and sour and tangy kimchi. The mocha bun took a little getting used to - had a sort of dusty outer layer - but was full of subtle coffee vibes and was pleasantly chewy. The cheese cake stick (not cheesecake like you're probably thinking) wasn't super cheesy but was yet again wildly soft and had a faint coconut flavor. Lastly, the milk cream bread was chewy and gooey on the outside and filled with creamy vanilla custard. Not sure I've ever had anything that wasn't vanilla ice cream taste SO MUCH like vanilla ice cream, but it was really cool!
No photos because I was either too busy stuffing my face or brought them home and the lighting was too bad, lol.
Can't wait to come back again and again and again! They have so many amazing looking items and I plan on working my way through...
Read moreTous Les Jours French Bakery is an absolute gem! From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted by the delightful aroma of freshly baked pastries, and I knew I was in for a treat. The selection of both sweet and savory pastries is simply irresistible. I started with a classic croissant, and it was perfection—flaky, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Then, I moved on to one of their savory options, the ham and cheese croissant, and it blew me away. The perfect balance of gooey cheese, savory ham, and the golden, crispy pastry made every bite heavenly. They also have these smaller pastries that are rich with a buttery garlic flavor and little sausages. This is one of my favorites. But they also have a number of pre-packaged take home options.
And let’s not forget the coffee! Their lattes are rich and smooth, with just the right amount of creaminess to pair perfectly with their pastries. Whether you're a fan of espresso or prefer a milder brew, they’ve got something for every coffee lover. But if you're not a coffee lover, they have some delightfully refreshing juice mocktails which were perfect for my kids.
One of the highlights of my visit was the quaint outdoor seating area. Sitting outside with my coffee and croissant, I felt like I had been transported to a charming Parisian café. It’s the perfect spot to relax, people-watch, and soak in the ambiance. If you’re looking for a place that serves both amazing pastries and coffee in a delightful, European-style setting, Tous Les Jours is an...
Read moreGreat experience. A new must-try bakery in Huntsville. Much better than Edgar's with greater uniformity within the re-occuring experience - i.e. my donut today will be just as good the next time I come a week from now.
Points of interest:
Happy Hour Special: With $15 purchase between 6 pm and 8 pm, get a free piece of cloud cake. Delicious.
A little expensive but not bad when compared to other specialty baked goods such as Bundt Cakes, Crumbl Cookies, etc. See prices in pics.
After you enter, take tongs and a paper-lined tray to select your own baked goods. Cashiers are friendly will bag your leftover items if you choose to eat on location.
Milk is available upon request.
Donuts are not as sweet to the taste as American pastries as they are modeled after French and Asian items.
A fair amount of seating, which goes quick. You may need to wait for a table, but remember there are some outdoor tables as well.
Enjoy! It was a...
