When we are going to a party, as we were on this day, Vie a Paris is our "go to" place to pick up a desert (if Thuy does not have time to bake one herself). We have bought many a cake here, before Thuy started doing her own baking (which is the only way to get a better product).
On this day Mark & I were tasked to pick up a cake for Easter lunch. Since we were picking it up (and it was not pre-ordered, which is required to ensure you get what you want), we passed on the typical cake with fruit on top, and went for something more like a German Chocolate Cake (with cherries and that gooey coconut frosting. Yum!). Since we had time to kill, we opted to order a few treats, and coffees, for ourselves.
I was kinda surprised by the dine in option. I was even more surprised by the lunch options. Now I have the pâté chaud (a light layered and flaky exterior pastry with a meat filling - perhaps chicken liver I think) before (to go), and being a liver fan, like it. But having one hot and fresh from the oven was a real treat. Also, the soups and sandwiches caught my eye. I can think of nothing else I want to try other than the Onion Soup from Vie a Paris. Next time for sure, with a pâté chaud.
We also nibbled on a few cookies, all fantastic (and too many to chose from) and drank some coffees, before heading down to Haltom City for lunch.
Oh, and as expected, the cake was fantastic and loved by all, even Bô (who does not usually like sweets). I should note Vie a Paris cakes are not over the top "American sweet" like typical products from the...
Read moreCake is good, but customer service was nasty. Someone wrote a previous review about friendly staff. However the south Asian woman looking (I assume vietnamese or Thai) around in her 50s….cashier or the owner I had was rude. She avoid answering questions about cakes but she kept asking me to pay first before asking further questions. And After I handed over my payment to her she processed the payment and then went back to the kitchen and counted money with another old asian looking woman….I asked for a receipt but she pretended not listening even though she was just a feet away from me. I waited 15minutes until she finished her business counting money and then issued the receipt of my payment I asked. The receipt she gave me finally after waiting for her forever looks terrible and illegible…..I am just in shock. Never been treated this way. My friend recommended this place for cake but my first impression of this bakery was awful. Doesn’t matter if this place makes best cake in town. I would rather have a second best cake from somewhere else and be treated how a customer should be treated. Wouldn’t be a...
Read moreI'm only giving this place one star because there isn't an option for ZERO! I ordered a chocolate mousse cake for a birthday last week. I picked it up at the bakery this morning and when we bit into it, it was like eating sawdust. It was the driest cake (and the worst) that I have ever had. I took the cake back and told them that the cake didn't taste good and was very, very dry and the strawberries had black bruises on them. I was shocked when the owner grabbed a section of the middle and rubbed it together and said, 'See? Moist." She then asked if Ive had their cakes before and when I replied I hadn't, she said, "That's why.Our cakes are not as sweet as American cakes." I told her that I didn't have a problem with the sweetness, only that it was too dry and stale and didn't taste good." She said, "I'll return your money because I don't want to deal with you. Don't come back here." I was not rude to her and was quite surprised at the ugliness of her words and her horrible customer service. She needn't worry that I'll be coming back for a sawdust cake. Very, very bad...
