African Food Palace — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

I came in on a Saturday afternoon. Upon walking in, the restaurant was empty and gave a smell of a place that cooks without ventilation. As if the cooking smells stick to the walls over time. Their walls and seating booths have graffiti from past patrons written on them. So it’s not exactly a place where i would sit and dine in. The kitchen or cooking area is stationed directly behind the register. Knowing this, one would expect a smell of food or some kind of steam. From my view point, there was nothing cooking, no steam. Just various pots and pans on their stoves and about 3 women standing around and/or moving things about. I ordered the Egusi with goat as my choice of meat, fufu, and a side of Jollor rice. The Customer service employee was very pleasant.

I didn’t open my food until I got home. The egusi was very good, the seasoning was on point. My only complaint was that I received such a small quantity. I thought I would at least be able to feed 2 people in reference to the price point. I would say they filled the plastic container 1/10 of the way. In regards to the goat. I received 2 small pieces and they were both very HARD. I could not eat either piece to completion, because my intuition knew it wasn’t made from that day. The fufu was fresh and warm. Nearly perfect texture and salt point. The Jollof rice was also very delicious. The rice was soft, contained its sticky moist texture, and was packed with flavor. I would definitely order the rice again.

After finishing my food, i still had over half my fufu left over but no egusi. 😂

the ogbono soup was disgusting she made me pay for something i told her i did not like and that i wouldn’t eat any further after i told her it was disgusting and i did not want it but she proceeded to not listen to me and told me i had to pay for it since it was my first time here which is diabolical and i didn’t like it because it had locus beans in it and it made me want to throw up they’re business will never prosper handling business like that and treating there mistreating there customers and are money hungry people like that will never will win in life. i never knew you had to pay for something you didn’t like nor ate but i would never recommend this restaurant to anyone they’re completely rude to customers they have zero manners and i’ll never come back here ever again and i’ll tell people to not come here too. the restaurant give dirty vibes the bbb needs to check them out because it’s horrible & the portions was horrible i should’ve got more for what im paying for they played but that’s they loss not mines because i get more food at different african restaurants than this one and she tried to argue me up and down about the locus beans i’ve been eating african food for years and never had that in my food ever and they never disclosed that which i felt like they should’ve and the meat was burnt i couldn’t eat that clearly she didn’t care about how she treats her customers and i only had three...

HORRIBLE! AS A REVIEWER WITH OVER 940K VIEWS. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO NOBODY AT ALL. THIS IS THE WORST REVIEW IVE EVER HAD TO MAKE.
