Jerk It Iz Jamaican Cuisine — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

This place is great. When all the other restaurants in this section of the "hood" are closed I can always count on this place. I work late and I called in an order at 10:20 pm, 25 minutes later just like the nice lady told me by phone, I stop by and picked up my order. Everything went smooth. I ordered the goat curry and jerk chicken. sides were greens, cabbage, red beans/rice, and yams. The goat curry was so 😋 yummy, very flavorful and lots of meat. Jerk chicken was also very tasty. The sides especially the greens and cabbage were almost the best I have every had. Some places you just get cooked greens and cabbage, not here, for example the greens had some other veggies in there and and other ingredients and was so wonderful. Could really tell someone who knew how to cook made these with absolutely LUV ❤️ I'm from the south and have experience with "Southern" food very similar to this that my mom made, but I guess in Chicago it's been appropriated and called now called "Soul" food, I called my mom to let her know and she just laughed, and told me Southerners been eating very similar foods like this for years and was very proud to know it also lives on as "Soul" food. Me and my boyfriend ordered from this restaurant last night off of DoorDash. The food was OK. It was very bland. We are very big on jerk food as for our best friend actually owns a restaurant for jerk. Their store was temporarily closed for remodeling so we ordered here instead . first red flag was the location does not serve mac & cheese like what jerk restaurant does not serve mac & cheese as one of the side of a plate. The second red flag was the ox tails were full of fat no meat this also came with no sides just a small bowl Of ox tails with one carrot and two small beans .we received it ….barely ate it . Again we love jerk and have tried other restaurants and when we eat either the entire plate is eaten or the majority of it ! This plate was shared by my boyfriend and I and half of the plate is still left over . the bag of food was placed on the dresser so it could be disposed Of before we go to bed, but we fell asleep before doing so. We forgot to throw it away because we weren’t saving it .wakin up This morning we smell something not sure what it was we a strong spoiled And it was indeed at the bag that was on the dresser it smells absolutely horrible. It smells like this bag has been in my room for months in a very hot atmosphere which it has not, I am so upset that I ate this food last night and to think that I had put this food in my body after the way that it smells the following morning would not recommend would not...

I don’t understand the reason for the high rating but I am not here to tear the place apart but to be honest. Came here on. Sunday and when I pulled up they had a Bluetooth speaker outside the restaurant playing Calypso music and Reggae. It’s so loud the young lady behind the counter couldn’t hear me and I couldn’t hear her. I ordered a whole white with string beans and a brown stew chicken with corn and greens. They were out of greens. Took about 45 minutes at 11:15pm to make. I also ordered extra slices of sourdough bread with my order that I didn’t receive. When I got it home. The whole white was cold, the brown stew chicken was lukewarm and to my surprise when they give you sourdough bread they slice it in half so essentially when you buy extra bread you are buying half a slice. The jerk sauce is salty and you can barely taste and jerk rub or seasoning on the chicken. Maybe I would have to come back earlier during the day when the food is warmer and more plentiful.
