Let me just say there is a lot of good that litehouse does to feed those in need....and the owner I've met before seems to be a really a great guy! Unfortunately, the staff really needs a bit more customer service training. Today, I ran over to Litehouse Grill before they closed on A Friday night to get the mango grilled salmon bowl. Two orders to be exact. I also ordered a lemonade and 2 orders of sweet potato fries. (approximately $37.00). I get home and there is NO salmon in one of the orders. One order of fries is hot and the other is not. I noticed that as the person was putting together my food, she was half paying attention, and of course the customer service was mediocre (just as I remembered when they were on 53rd street). The rice in the bowls-- hard and cold. This is the second time I visited since they moved to 55th street. Then it all came back today, the reason I stopped going in the first place. The mistakes that have always been made with my food and the mediocre customer service. I've gone to other food establishments for years, and have gotten a wrong order far less than I have at Litehouse. I have eaten there so many times and have continued to support the business, but the staff just can't seem to get it right. I get it....this is just another review, and life goes on, and they will keep making money, but I keep trying and I keep getting disappointed. I supported because of the good they do for others. The food has always been great when they get it right! It's such a great place when the staff gets it right. Of course, they are closed now.....(oh and they never gave me a receipt, just assumed I didn't want it want it and immediately processed the next person's order....at that point couldn't go back to retrieve MY receipt). I even asked an employee about the dessert (vegan cheesecake) and she couldn't even tell me the flavors. She could have looked at it and just read the label. But, didn't even bother to do that. Dang, I could have eaten at so many other places in Hyde Park tonight. Disappointed again and out of $37. Welp, At least the lemonade was good. I believe in what they do so much to feed others that are less fortunate so much, that I would probably still be willing to go back, if my order was even just a little better tonight. After tonight I won't be back at all!!...
Read moreThis was my first time eating and ordering from this restaurant via UBER EATS. Let me say I am not a fan of delivery apps and generally only use them when I am in a pinch because I find the quality of the food, service and overall experience and satisfaction are greatly compromised and decreased all while the prices are generally increased plus service fees and taxes.
I would rather personally dine in and have my food served "fresh" or at least fresher than the offerings sent out throught the delivery apps (I doubt I need to be more specific on that topic.... IYKYK) . I ordered The Southwestern bowl and a Strawberry Lemonade and was not impressed in the least with either selection. The lemonade was warm upon arrival as it was in the same bag and right next to the food , it being the Lemonade was not fully filled and nothing to rave about especially for the price. The bowl lacked bite or much flavor in my opinion no Southwestern flavors ( cumin, cilantro, onion, garlic) and it smelled a bit rancid or sour upon opening which was concerning......however the portion was generous in part to my requesting double protein at an ...$$additional cost.
The "Spanish rice" tasted pre packaged and hard the chicken had no distinct flavor to it just salty , there were black beans and corn sprinkled throughout and a bit of their version of "Pico de Gallo" and forensic traces of cheese and tortilla chips and some leaves of romaine lettuce there were also fajita veggies (that were steamed at best). It was served with a Cilantro Lime sweet dressing I didn't care for but the Salsa and sour cream ( $$additional charge) helped marry the bowl to make it tolerable. Based on the reviews this may be an establishment you must try via "dine in" in order to have a better outcome. I ended up trashing it despite trying to make it worth the effort. Just go to Cpe or even Burrito Be*...
Read moreI never leave reviews EVER, but I ordered an UberEats order on August 20 2025 from Litehouse Whole Food Grill and there was a ROACH IN MY FOOD. The food came sealed in a container in a stapled bag. I transferred the food to a glass bowl so that I could save the rest for the next day. I’ve ordered from them multiple times and I was a loyal customer and actually spoke highly and recommended many. This time, as I was almost done with my bowl, I was looking at my food I saw something that wasn’t a consistent color with the rest of the food. I looked closer and there was a roach in my cooked food. I was so disgusted I literally felt sick. I got my refund from UberEats but I tried to call the restaurant to discuss the matter that night but no answer. I would have went up there but I honestly couldn’t justify going out my way for them, that’s why I always ordered from them on UberEats. So I called a few more times with no answer or voicemail box and today September 3 they finally answered. I asked for a manager or owner, but I spoke with a lead named Joe about the matter and immediately when I told him he did not seem interested nor apologetic. He then proceeded to give excuses insinuating roaches are a normal part of the Chicago restaurant industry, which I’ve never known to be true. He said that there’s an apartment building upstairs and things can come from upstairs like thats a valid explanation. But I’ve been taught to believe that if there’s 1 roach then there’s most likely some sort of infestation so I won’t be returning. If you care about the wellbeing of your customers why put them at that kind of risk and not expand to a standalone building? Anyway, I’m just spreading awareness because I know they are known for their “fresh ingredients” and if I was a customer I would want to know what risk I’m taking...
