An unfortunate set of circumstances added up to be the worst hotel experience of my life, it was less than 18 hours long and cost $523!!
An event was taking place that surrounded the hotel by about a two block radius and there was no notification from the hotel that this would be an issue.
It took us an hour and a half to travel two blocks and find the hotel valet to be able to park.
When we tried to call and figure out where we were supposed to be going we were put on hold for over 15 minutes. Twice!! I finally got out of the car and walked around two blocks to find it!!!
Once arriving to the hotel we were frustrated and the valets were doing their best with the situation. But when we were being escorted to the lobby by the valet a security guard for the hotel decided to stop the valet and argue with her about “which door she was using” while we were still waiting to be moved along to the front desk.
Once arriving at the front desk I expressed my concerns to the front desk manager and she comped my valet charge (Nice thought but i was forced to use the valet). When we went back down to get the car about 45 minutes later to go to our event we were basically given the keys, shown to the parking garage and told “use the key thing to find your car”.
The valet also gave us directions to get to our event that were supposed to help but the cross street she suggested was a dead-end.
In the morning i decided I was just gonna let it go and write it off as a bad coincidence until I realized the we paid $523 for a two-queen standard room!! Full disclosure someone else booked this for me and knew the rate but if I had known during the whole set of events that i was paying that much I would have canceled the reservation.
I asked to speak with the manager and then waited for 15 minutes for him to show up. I explained the experience and told him how unhappy I was and he did not apologize or show a sense of compassion.
I was told that I should have got an email that notified me about the event. I did not, I have received 5 emails from Hyatt since the reservation.was placed. Two of them were marketing emails BUT NOTHING NOTIFYING ME OF THE EVENT. My husband even called to talk with the hotel staff to confirm a late checkout before we arrived and there was no mention of an event taking place.
The manager told me he would need to talk to his manger and confirm the details before he could “do anything” .
I understand that stuff happens but I tried to give the hotel every chance to know how unhappy I am and they showed me they just really don’t care.
I have to travel a few nights every month and will now go out of my way to avoid...
Read moreStayed a good 12 nights as was there to help the son move to an apartment off campus from U Chicago. |Hotel is well located and you can walk 15 mins to U Chicago. In the day it's safe. Would not walk alone at night.|Large rooms. When you have two queen beds as a double double plus a sofa bed, it's a large room!! |My elder son also visited for fist 4 nights so having three large guys in a large space like this is welcome.|Clean bathrooms, well stocked as well. Serviced daily. (dont know when they changed the sheets though). |The breakfast is sufficient and included in the rate. I guess this is a standard in the US to have the set items, limited, but again, enough to get your day going. |(Just for perspective to US travellers, if you stayed at a Hyatt Place in India or Asia, your breakfast would probably be 3 times the size in every respect. Just an FYI to tell you Asian hospitality standards).|One comment on the room AC. It's in the corner near the window and the flow directly on the bed can get your allegories going. It did mine. I wish the FCU's were in the foyer like standard hotels. I have noticed this same arrangement in the Residence Inn we used in Palo Alto. Could be, again, a US thing. |We appreciate the teams helpfulness round the clock. We used the hotel as an Amazon delivery centre! had packages coming in all week. they store the same for you. Real helpful.|I did not have a rental this trip but friends visited us with their car, and the basement parking is YUGE and secure! |The in house dining room that serves breakfast doubles up as a bar and snack place I guess post morning. We did not use the same.|Plenty of dining right around the hotel. Sweet Green, Chipotle, pizza joints, a Giordano's close enough, Mc Donalds (we dont touch the stuff) and many more.|We went downtown often in Lyft's and prices are not too bad. Cheaper to Lyft even twice a day vs a rental and parking charges. (FYI, this trip Lyft was ALWAYS cheaper than Uber).|This hotel is great for all U Chicago visitors and much more.|Will be back here soon for graduation. |Special shout out to Leroy the GM and the...
Read moreThe hotel itself is fine. However, the front desk staff is completely incompetent. I was in town for a family event and my sister had gotten a block of rooms through this hotel. When I arrived at the hotel, the clerk at the desk checked me into what apparently was supposed to be my other sister's room. I found this out an hour later, when my sister entered my room and stated they had checked her into the room I had been given. When we tried to straighten things out, the front desk staff was rude and accusatory even though they made the mistake. Not an hour after that, someone else who was attending the event tried entering the room as they too had been checked into that room. At least this time the front desk called to apologize. My checkout was fine, but when my sister went to checkout of her room, she noticed that another credit card (mine) was listed for the room. My sister asked the front desk to charge her card instead but they insisted they could not do that. So I was charged for 2 rooms. Once my sister told me what happened, I called the manager. He assured me that they would fix the problem. They contacted my sister and got her credit card information. 2 ½ weeks later, I have still not been refunded my money, nor has my sister had her credit card charged. The manager did contact me a few days later via email due to the poor feedback survey I filled and said he hoped I would give them another chance. When I replied that I was still waiting to get my refund, someone else answered asking for my credit card number. As I didn't want to give it to just anyone, I provided the last 4 digits and stated the manager had my phone number if they needed anything more. Again nothing has happened. Total incompetence. Guess I'll have to contest the charge with my credit...
