Well I did not know about Original Pancake house until passing Hyde Park but so far if it is a franchise it is a great breakfast place in Chicago. It was my 1st time for me and a friend. The crepes we're delicious as well as the french toast my friend had. I originally was going to Wildberry Pancakes in Chicago but the rudeness from that restaurant from both staff members and customers was terrible. That is why I came here. I will be coming to dine here for breakfast now and then. Also hope someone gets a waitress name Alicia. She was very courteous to serve anyone.
updated as of 02/15/20 Well some disappointment from making a return. I was craving for Original Pancake House since I have not had it for a while and not all Walker Bros/Original Pancake House locations are consistent. I had labeled this the Best one to go to but had a slight disappointment after checking in. They are known for their French Toasts, Pancakes and their Crepes are deliciously divine. Especially their Lingonberry Crepes. They also make the best scrambled eggs and pork patties as well. Well I had ordered all I wanted and even took a chance on an order of Hashbrowns but made a wrong assumption. It all started well on the right track with coffee and orange juice which is great. It was until I got my main order of Lingonberry Crepes, 4 sausage patties that was correct in order however I was disappointed at the Hashbrowns and was very disappointed on receiving my 3 eggs cooked the wrong way. The hashbrowns were the thick potato cut ones that are very heavy which I did not like. This is a preference and I assumed it was going to be the grated Hash Browns. Anyways I took a chance so not the resturants fault. It was the order from my waitress server who gave me 3 sunnyside up eggs. That is where I was mildly upset or disappointed. The female server (In which I did not want to name her) kept pushing it was what I ordered but it was NOT. I still ate the eggs and did not want to wait for 3 scrambled eggs so I took what I had to eat since I was really hungry and left my house with no breakfast just for that purpose. Anyways I did address the 2nd manager after I paid about the incorrect order of one dish and feedback of the hashbrowns but I really had to take a star because of that server. I would come back again but I learned my lesson my hashbrowns and will hear myself when I order my eggs as scrambled and NOT Sunnyside up. Everything else was still yummy and...
Read moreThis used to be my favorite breakfast establishment. Notice I mentioned this in the past tense. The food itself is great. I loved the skillets, various kinds of pancakes, etc. Being recognized as a regular patron, the staff treated me nicely. They seated me anywhere I wanted, coffee was prompt and the food was just how I requested. I would tip the wait staff regularly and even contacted the corporate office to complement the staff. Then one day, my experience with them completely soured me.
I brought a female friend with me that day and I noticed many of the wait staff gave us dirty looks and whispers. Unlike the other times when I would get prompt service, it seemed that I was purposely ignored when it wasn't even all that crowded. The waitress at our table was very snippy with my friend. One of the other waitresses who I thought was cool kept coming around and giving us malicious looks and never even said hello. It was a very uncomfortable vibe. The service wasn't like it usually was that's for certain.
They don't even have a clue who the woman with me was. And regardless of who she was, that's completely irrelevant to them doing their job. The whole thing was ridiculous. I'm a paying customer and a very respectful and courteous one compared to some ignorant people I've seen come in there. It's been over to a year since I've been there. I decided from that point on to give my money to Mellow Yellow or Valois and call it a day. At least the employees there...
Read moreMy TOGO order experience was absolutely HORRIBLE. at the 1358 E 47th St in Chicago, IL. I placed my order and right before I paid for it I asked to see the receipt and the order was incorrect. Plus I notice that they was charging me for the containers that my food was being put in not the bag but the CONTAINERS. I've NEVER been to a restaurant and they charge you for a container $.25 each they used 6 containers which they really only needed 3. When the manager Sylvester corrected my order the price was a lot higher, that's because he added a extra meal on it. I asked to see the receipt but the cashier needed to take it to the kitchen to explain my order. So I went a head and paid for my food. When they brought my food out I asked for the receipt and I notice a extra meal but did not receive a extra meal. Do you think with all that I went through that the Manager Sylvester would have said we can remove the container charger or give you a discount nooooo, and they had to replace the eggs to one of the meals because they was over cooked. I will NEVER place another TOGO order from this place again. I wish I could give them a half star because that's what this...
