Uncle John's BBQ — Restaurant in Hyde Park Township

Good day, I'm writing this review about Uncle John's barbecue because I'm very very very very very very disappointed.

My daughter and I went there to order our dinner on July 23rd, 2025, at 7:29 p.m.

I ordered turkey tips and two links and I ordered chicken tips for my daughter. The food was terrible. The taste wasn't bad. It was covered with barbecue sauce that wasn't bad.

However, at 2:00 in the morning, I became nauseated broke out in a sweat, my stomach is cramping... at 4:00 a.m. I begin throwing up.

The only thing I had eaten where are the turkey tips and some of the links. My stomach is still queasy. I'm still unable to get up because of the food poisoning. The meat had to be old and covered up... something just wasn't right.

I generally eat from there once a month. I haven't had a problem with this restaurant for over 10 years!! What disturbed me is the fact that when I called this afternoon to put in a complaint about it... I was told that I had to bring the food back!

Make this make sense... As I told the manager that was on duty this morning this afternoon....(the one with the accent). How can I bring the food back that I've already eaten ..,.gotten poisoning from and threw up? Make it make sense! To add fuel to the fire.. the manager with the accent told me I'm sorry... And as I responded yeah your are sorry.... your customer service sucks.

This is terrible.... this has taken hours out of my life because someone decided to sell some toxic food!!

I was told bring the order in and the ticket and we'll give you some more food why would I want some more garbage from there and I'm already sick from this? It's not the fact that I spent $42 for this order that doesn't matter here or there what does matter is a customer service should always come first. You know supporting black businesses sometimes it is bleak!! it doesn't matter. We should have higher expectations and the highest serving standards for our people in our area...

Not deserving of 2 star We decided not to cook today because we already bbq'd this weekend. So I called this restaurant and the man that answered the phone said that they were closing early at 7 and weren't accepting and call ins, and then he hung up on me. So we went because we still wanted some BBQ! But, once we've arrived there was a man saying that they didn't have any food left. We thought they was joking because we just got off the phone with them. Then when we came into the restaurant and they said they only had tips left. And that they didn't have anything else there. So I immediately got upset because for one when I was on the phone with the gentlemen he hung up on me. Then for us to drive there and for them to say they don't have any food left that was just ludicrous. So the cook got upset, not the gentleman that said they didn't have any food, but the cook got upset and said, "you all are just going to stay your ass there? That's why I can't stand black people!" That's when I went clean in on them, and said a few choice words myself! They are very rude disrespectful and they will not get any of my money Ever. So I am putting them on blast for the most worst customer service the most worst employees and let's not forget that they hate black...

My mom told me if you dont have anything nice to say dont say it at all. But I have to comment after reading the reviews.Im from the south so the Chicago attitudes im not used to. Its not just at this place. Its 95% off the restaurants you go to in Chicago. I absolutely don't agree with it. I just get my food and go usually! I had a experience last night with service and gave my number (not really expecting a call back) However I did get a call back from a man named Darryl. He was very attentive,professional and apologitic and you could truly tell that he cared about what I had to say. No ones perfect but lets not be so quick to just dismiss and bad mouth our Black businesses for 1 incident and not give them a chance to fix it. I know you've all went to McDonald's or somewhere similar and they've messed something up...but you went back didn't you? And you didn't come online bad mouthing them and leaving negative ratings on google. We have to support each other. We have enough people against us that try to tear us down already. My food is great when I go there. And Dat Donut is on point. Let start building and helping one another and stop bashing all the time.✊ Again Darryl thanks for the call and resolution and I will...
