Years ago I loved to get breakfast here. We lived fairly close so it was convenient. We moved out to Meridian and just never made it to this side of Boise anymore.
We were taking the kids to the botanical garden and thought letâs have brunch at the Trolley House! The wife was excited to go back after not eating here in years.
Well.... the wife ordered the bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions. I had eggs and sausage links. The kids ordered their stuff. Now the place wasnât all that busy, maybe five other tables with a total of 10 people there. Took forever to get the food. When it did arrive mine was alright. The wifeâs burger was missing the bacon and grilled onions. She let the server know. We started to eat. The wife wanted to wait for the missing items on her burger. After about 5 min I had to literally get up and find someone and ask about the missing items. The bacon showed up in about a minute. No grilled onions. Asked for it again. No joke, 5 min later still no onions. Got up again and asked. About 3 min later the grilled onions showed up. Now, everyone has their idea of what grilled onions are. What showed up was about 10 onion chunks that were burned on the edges and completely uncooked in the middle, no joke they were still crunchy.
The service was sub-par at best. Had to either get up to find a server or literally flag one down. When the bill arrived, I had my card ready to pay. The server didnât even take it or say anything. She just walked away. After about 5 min I ended up walking up and paying for it.
The bathroom needed cleaned. You donât want details, trust me. Makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is.
Overall, this place went downhill... all the way down the hill. Never...
Read moreUPDATE: Read my first review below. On our second trip we did finally get to eat at the restaurant. The waitstaff seemed very friendly except for the older waitress we got, Victori. We sat down and inside and after we ordered a large table of children and babies was sat next to us so we decided to relocate outside. Victori told us that if we wanted our water we would have to go back into the table and get it. We also chose the only available table outside in the shade which happened to be dirty with previous dishes. She came out and told us to pick some other table which is fine, except for later a single gentleman came in sat at the still dirty table and was greeted by a different waitress who happily cleared the table and did not complain for him to move. Food was okay but portions were small compared with other similar restaurants. We asked for chocolate chips in the pancake and I believe five or six mini chips were sprinkled in the bottom giving barely any chocolate flavor. So after visiting twice we will not return. I did suggest returning for lunch where we would hopefully not get Victori but my spouse declined. PREVIOUS: Can't really review as we arrived, we were told that they were closing early on Sunday, June 20th (Father's Day) because they ran out of food! Incredible. We saw 3 other parties standing in the parking lot, deciding where to go as they we turned away as well. I've read the good reviews, but I guess that's only if they remember to order enough food for a major holiday. We were disappointed, but also think about the profit they lost due to closing early and the staff that expected to earn more from the day. Just a...
Read moreLooking for breakfast/lunch spot, googled up âdog friendlyâ, Trolly House popped up. Iâm giving them 3 stars instead of less because we showed up 45 minutes before close and this is not a good thing here bc they clearly want to clear the condiments out, shut it down by 3. Outdoor patio is pleasant enough. My Ruben was so so. I opted out of the sliced turkey add-in, Iâm a purest; 2 corned beef slices, marbled rye, sauerkraut, sauce ok, but not much of it for $10.25. Side salad was generic, lettuce not drained well so Bleu Cheese dressing ran all over plate. Hubs went on the cheap with the Standard Burger because he wasnât that hungry; his bad because they did have some deluxe burger menu items that looked pretty good. 2 pre-formed 1/4 lb (precooked) patties a la Mickey Dâs except nearly not as good. They had gluten free bread to serve it on - thatâs in the plus column. No condiments offered, meh. Hubâs Coke # 1 came out with about 4 ice cubes in it - server said theyâd run out of ice. Drink was all soda water, no Coke syrup, so I walked it back in, asked for a replacement. 2 more requests later out it came, this time drinkable AND with ice. Asked if they had a childâs burger for our pup, we were offered one plain hamburger patty for $4 bucks - pup was hungry, ok but really??? One kudo: French fries were very good. Maybe coming earlier would have made a difference, or maybe sticking to the breakfast/brunch menu would have made a difference, or maybe they just happened to have an off morning, or just maybe this is the bar theyâve set for themselves and theyâre fine with it. We wonât be returning to try to...
