El Maguey — Restaurant in Independence

HONEST POST So, in the past I have spent a lot of money at El Magueys because the flavor of the food tasted good to me, but I will no longer patronize this business due to the poor quality and quantity of the food order that I paid for tonight and also the poor quality of how the manager handled my issue with the food order. Usually when I’m feeling in the mood for some El Magueys I always have ordered the volcano fajitas for my husband and I. Sometimes I may order the El Toriado just to eat something different and my son loves the Chicken nachos with extra queso on the side. About a week ago, I decided that I wanted to try something different besides what I usually order so I decided on some fajita nachos and when i tasted them I was very pleased And have been thinking about getting another order throughout the week. So tonight, I order volcano fajitas for my husband and fajita nachos for myself, hoping that the taste will be the very same taste that I had the last time. Upon opening the container I see a lot of veggies on top. I see a few meats, but I just thought maybe they’re buried under the chips. I start to eat the fajita nachos. I eat about two shrimp A piece of chicken, a piece of steak and the shrimp tasted fine, but the chicken and steak didn’t have any flavor almost tasted like water. The cheese tasted good. The chips were fine and so I decided I don’t wanna eat anymore because it didn’t taste the same. I called the restaurant And asked to speak to the manager, the male person that answered the phone said he was the manager. I told him about the food having no seasoning and he asked can I bring it back? I knew I had ate a few pieces of shrimp and a few pieces of meat so I was kind of not wanting to take it back but at the same time the food just didn’t taste good .,So I took it back And the manager seen that it had been eaten out of well of course it had been, how else would I know that there was no flavor in the food? So he kept saying that I had eaten most of it when in truth I did not. It did not taste good so why would I eat it all? So He brought out a replacement and it looked nothing like the order I had received. It was tons of steak on top shrimp, lots of meat that was not in my order, but I did not complain about the portion because I thought that the flavor would still be the same. And it’s not the first time that they barely put meat on any of my orders, but I’ve never complained in the past because again it tasted really good to me. So the manager proceeded to try to make me feel bad I guess by saying that I ate all of the meat out of the order that I received which in fact I did not and by this time, my appetite has left anyway and I just told them just keep everything I don’t want the money. I don’t want the food because if you think that I would try to get something free after the amount of money that I spent at your establishment….SHAME ON YOU! I’ve seen other reviews of the poor service from this place, and I did not want to believe it because of the great food that I’ve received in the past, But I will no longer patronize this establishment and I hope anybody that reads this and you still want to order here. Check your food and picture before you leave Just in case you have an issue and have to bring it back. I would hate for anybody else to go through what I’ve went through. Updated: I feel the need to drop a star…. 4 down to 3. 6yrs ago: Idk. Years ago I'd have said this is one of my favorite places. The last time I was in the staff was just ok and the food wasn't bad but nothing extra special. Has the place changed that much or is it that I've changed and have higher expectations? This eve: mmmm… it must be me. The place is still open so..? Idk. I felt the $ where… higher than other quality Mexican places of the nature in the metro. The chips where horrible… cold and …? Mmm? Stale-ish. I wasn’t impressed w/ the salsa either… and I don’t usually feel super picky. The service was minimal can’t say I went w/ out anything…. The food I ordered came. Some what bland and dry (chicken burrito) There was simply nothing noteworthy. The inside has had a recent update…. $ would have been put to better use don’t in training staff. The poor girl looked like she wanted to be ANY PLACE, but there.

The bill was higher than I expect… there was an odd charge…. Add on..? For ice water? Idk. I keep hoping…. And get let down each time.

• Bathroom was super gross! There was no big rush and it was EARLY dinner hour. Toilet paper (not a little…oops the floor, both seats where wet… not from cleaning solution! Feminine product on the floor… mirror felt like it belonged in a carnival house of mirror-all wonky and ..? Curved/bent?

I was taken here with a friend of mine. The food, each of us had mixed fajitas, beef, chicken, and shrimp. On a separate plate came rice, beans with cheese on top, pica de qallo, and guacamole. They served warm chip with salsa to start. The service was excellent, the waitress courteous and helpful. It was my first time to eat something other than tacos or taquitos. It was really, really good! The place is dark, it's an older building. We sat at a table. A lot of people came in after we did, so we got there before the rush. My friend tipped the waitress really good, everything was so wonderful. The reason I am leaving this review is because I came back here to find the phone number to call and order what my friend and I had for my son and myself for lunch today. It is so much food that each serving is enough for two meals and costs 12.95 each. Very, very surprised at the negative comments.
