Hacienda Vieja Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Independence

My partner and I had gone to this restaurant about 3 years ago and we had a pleasant experience, but this time the experience was far from the same. Upon arrival, we noticed the parking lot was full, which meant that it was likely full inside. When we entered, the host told us that it would be about a 7 minute wait. Luckily it didn’t take more than 3-5 minutes before we were seated. Our drink orders were taken fairly quickly, and the bowl of complimentary chips and salsa were also given while we viewed the menu. Eventually we decided what we wanted, but the waiter was no where to be seen. At this point we had been waiting for about 15 minutes to have our order taken, which happens sometimes, because I understand that it gets busy, but it became extremely frustrating not being attended. We did see the waiter pop up at tables and booths around us, but it’s as if he completely ignored our table because in between taking the orders of other tables that got there after us, he was seen doing other tasks at a distance. We were unable to get ahold of another waiter or waitress because they were running up and down attending their own sections. Even more time went by when I told my partner that we should just pay for the drink and leave because it was clear that we were not going to have our order taken anytime soon and it was best just going elsewhere. After about 40 minutes pass, the waiter FINALLY notices us and attempts to take our order, WITHOUT even offering an apology for the delay in getting our order taken. My partner just requested to pay for the drink and we left. This experience was absolutely terrible. We were excited to give this place another try after years and we are likely not going to return back. The waiters need to ensure to prioritize customers above all, because a 40 minute wait time was absolutely ridiculous and we didn’t even get to place our order. We will take our...

WHO LIKES GREAT FOOD!!!!! Come check this out!! The atmosphere is what you first notice upon entering. The entire wall portrays a mural that brings you on scene with the renditions of Mexico. The chairs and tables remind you of the old west with the barreled studded seats, each one bearing the name •••••••••••••HACIENDA VIEJA•••••••••••••• They have a semi private room that can be reserved. Several high top tables for the bar area. They also serves fun kiddy smoothie type drinks, saw one with chocolate cookies atop a swirled horchata and a strawberry mango swirl twisted and garnished with fresh pineapple. Yum! I’ve gone serval times and with each experience I have had FANTASTIC SERVICE! MENU HOMEMADE AUTHENTIC MEXICAN Hot food brought to our table by the nicest people, they have an awesome team. Everyone is really kind,,,,,,, that speaks volumes……Ask for Estrella 🌟 The food is just good!! The black beans must have been slowly cooked all morning because the flavor pops with hints onion, garlic and spices with the just right texture. Served me a heap of steaming hot Arroz (Spanish rice). I ate every bit, errgh excuse me, I mean to say no grain remained.

Normally everything is great but tonight not so great from the beginning. Once being seated nobody came to our table for 10 minutes after someone brought chips then finally waitress took our drink order and food order. Never did she come back until she brought the food. Mine and my granddaughters food was good. The steak my husband got was so very saltly. Told waiter. He took the plate and the waitress and another lady came to our table stating they tasted it and it was not salty to them. Well to me and my husband it sure was. She said if we added salt then that would be why. He did not add salt. She said she would take it off our ticket this time. But it was not salty to her. She was very rude with how she handled it. We was not asking for a refund just to replace the food. Basically was calling us liars about the salt. I have never been treated so rude here as I was tonight. She didn't even want to replace it with what he requested because she said if the one he originally got was to salty then the next one would be too.
