Ovenbird Bakery — Restaurant in Independence

I’ve only gone to this bakery a few times now, but ever since I went for the first time about a month and a half ago I have gone every chance I could! It’s probably a good thing that I don’t live in town and I’m usually working during their open hours LOL! Anyway, I always get their Marionberry cheese danish because it’s amazing, but this time I also decided to get this cinnamon espresso brownie and if the lady behind the counter didn’t tell me it was gluten free when I would have never known! It was rich, but not like sickly rich, and fudgy, and just enough to make you want more but satisfying enough that you also know that you don’t need more… was so good I decided to come leave a review when I don’t usually take the time to do so ^_^ I was told that they make them a little different all the time, as in with different additives, this time it was cinnamon espresso, next time who knows what, but I can tell you right now, I CANNOT wait to try the next ones they make! And just for context, I don’t typically eat the “healthier” versions of things, I’m happy having real sugars instead of diet substitutes, and I’m perfectly content having gluten so when something is sugar free or gluten free or what have you, I’m not usually into it, but these… I’ll have these any dang time! You walk out of your apartment in the middle of Denmark onto the cobblestone street. It's just light enough to see each stone below you as you walk to the bakery down the street. The air is crisp and cool, the sound of birds waking up the sleepy town. You catch a whiff of fresh baked bread as you walk into the little shop. You order and head back upstairs, cozied up in bed with your pastries, which were sizzling in the oven just minutes before. You take that first bite of the peach cream cheese Danish and your senses seem to overflow. The savory and crispy pastry, the creamy cheese still warm from the oven, and the freshly picked sliced peaches, ripe enough to melt in your mouth. Each bite is heavenly. Your curtains become brighter as the sun wakes the little town. And there you are, curled up with danishes from your neighborhood bakery. Can a day have a better...

I have nothing but great things to say about Ovenbird Bakery! I just moved to Independence a few months ago and heard how great this bakery was. I placed a fairly big order for some baked goods for Christmas! I placed it pretty last minute and Katie was able to fit the order in! It consisted of a gluten free cake with a strawberry mousse in the middle and white frosting, a gluten free blueberry coffee cake, and a gluten free strawberry jelly roll. They were all amazing and my gf family members really enjoyed it! I’ve had a gf birthday cake made from here for my mom and a anniversary cake (with gluten ;)) as well.
