Afternoon fellow adventure seekers of Oregon! I had the pleasure of visiting with "Savannah", the owner of The Valkyrie Wine Tavern in Independence, Oregon. What a gorgeous place filled with great nostalgia and a delicious variety of wines for every special event in life. Savannah is not just another pretty face, but a passionate woman about her love for quality wines. I don't know the correct terminology of wine components, but Savannah sure does ( all I know is I like to drink red wine!) 🤣 I sampled three wines; a French Rose, Chardonnay, and a Red. Savannah's descriptions for each we're amazing and educational. I was mesmerized by the French Provence rose bouquet to the peppery prickly pear of Baden Germany only to fall in love all over again with a velvety red wine from Argentina. 🥰 Mask required, public restrooms available for customers, cash & plastic accepted for purchases. Hours of operation vary due to the COVID pandemic check website for the current...
Read moreMy new favorite place for Wine in Independence! Owner Savannah is a knowledgable and welcoming host and always has an interesting bottle or two . . . or six, open to sample. I appreciate her unpretentious approach to exploring wine. We tasted Oregon wines and imports from around the world, enjoyed some wine by the glass, and bought bottles for dinner later. The space was formerly part of a Lodge of some Fraternal Organization, and has that fun eclectic vintage vibe with a gold-flecked zig-zagging bar, classic barstools, assorted couches and lounge chairs, fireplace with taxidermy bison atop, suit of armor, candelabras, etc.
The kitchen was not currently operating, but check in before you visit to see if that is changed, or if you can still bring in outside food. There are plenty of places nearby you can order takeout from.

Read moreOur 1st time here, with another couple. Eclectic design, around a large bar area, fireplace, bison and nooks. Pretty sure no 2 tables are the same.
I had the game hen, fried. Served with small salad and grits. Frog legs, steak, roasted cauliflower (delicious crunchy yogurt side dressing) and roasted beet salad were the other dishes. The hen was crunchy on the outside, moist on the inside and delicious. Steak done a tad over MR, salad and fries accompanied. I believe he enjoyed it as there was no evidence. E anything had been on his plate. Same for all the other dishes.
Wine and beer list good. Staff friendly and informative. You order at the bar and they bring the food.
We will be back and are happy to see you in Independence. We wish...
