Peppers Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Independence

UPDATE: Against my better judgement, I gave them another chance. Called to order lunch for my family and after repeated calls, no one answered. Decided to place order in person (place was a ghost town) and I used their restroom while waiting on the food. It was filthy!! The front window sills are covered with dead bugs and dirt. I should have just got my money back and left right then. Got home and my quesadilla was so disgusting I didn't even eat it. They must have recently switched from chicken breast to... I guess thighs? It was huge pieces of fatty, greasy, dark meat. NOT at all what you expect when you order a chicken quesadilla. I have never had meat like that at this restaurant despite visiting several times over the past year. It was so greasy it was soaking wet. I don't foresee this place being in business much longer as I see a few new reviews about their STILL rancid salsa. Food safety/quality and restaurant cleanliness is not a priority here. $50 for lunch for 4 people that's a NO from me. Never again will I be back.

Only giving 2 stars because I have had better experiences here in the past (good not great food). But our to-go order tonight was not good. SALSA is SPOILED/ rancid!!!! I see another review complaining about the same issue recently, which is pretty sad. I drove back to the restaurant and let the owner smell it for himself. It had a very strong acetone smell/taste and I immediately spit it out after trying it with chips. The chips were stale. The chicken quesadilla I received tasted like it was made a week ago. The chicken was so dry, hard, and cold I couldn’t eat more than one bite. I’ve had better experiences in the past but receiving spoiled/ rancid food is a no go for me. Sad because there’s not much in Independence that’s worth spending...

TERRIBLE experience…To start, when we walked in, there was literally no one there. I told the hostess, which was the same person who was our server, that I loved how quiet it was, and I need to come more often at this time. I tell you this because it plays a role in one of my complaints coming up. So to start, literally in the middle of giving the waitress our order (middle aged woman with long dark hair in a pony tail and glasses), she walked away and didn’t say anything to us, and we didn’t even get the chance to say anything, and she went to seat someone up front. Second of all, we ran completely out of chips and my son had to go ask her for more chips. 3rd, she sat a couple right up against us after I had voiced my opinion earlier that I loved how quiet it was, and there were many other seats available, as the entire restaurant was empty. And last, we tried to pay the bill and were waiting at the register when 2 parties walked in after. She made us wait while she seated both, even though we told her we were in a hurry and needed to pay and leave. I mean, talk about feeling like we don’t matter at all! Won’t be back. We arrived and the food smelled good, went in to meet our party as I was looking for them the kid working the front asked if I was looking for the old couple(that's my mom and dad, RUDE) Our waitress couldn't understand English very well. So our order was a bit messed up. My Mom Order the taco salad with chicken and received beef. They mixed plates up but we figured that out for ourselves. Chips was good and hot but the salsa was watery, avocado dip was very salty ( when i say salty i mean do you want dip with your salt kind of salty) and had too much cilantro, the queso dip tasted burnt. When we asked about the burnt flavor the waitress couldn't understand what we were asking. The Fajita meat was burnt. The rice was orange rice that tasted like regular white rice, not Spanish rice at all. Had a coupon and it said free drink( it did not specify what kind of drink) she said it was for the waters we ordered but then took off one of the mixed drinks we ordered. We also asked for a lava cake to go for a birthday guest who couldn't be with us and she ignored us. We will not be back there. 1st and last visit. I cant believe...
