Dr. Mandese, at Atlantic Vision Center, is incredible! She is lovely and sensitive and is quite willing to patiently answer all of your questions about eye disease.
My story - I have had dry eye syndrome for many years. Most of the protocols I have used have kept it, more or less, under control. But since I have had cataract surgery, which was a great success, it seems I expected more from my eyes. I finally got tired of the off and on waterworks in one eye and the sometimes dry and gritty feeling in the other.
After a huge amount of research I came across a fairly new technique called IPL - Intense Pulsed Light. Initially it was used only by aestheticians to clear up age spots and other unsightly discolorations on the skin. Apparently clients told their aestheticians that it was clearing up their dry eye problem. (It would not be the first invention to have been discovered by accident.) So in the last few years, this wonderful technique is being used to clear up dye problems and Dr. Mandese, right here in Brevard Florida, offers this treatment. During my initial visit with Dr. Mandese she took a specialized photo of my eyes and explained that I have mibomian gland disease. She mentioned that with age the mucus glands in your eyes can slow down and can become clogged. This of course can create dry eye syndrome and other problematic eye disorders. So, I was a good candidate for IPL.
I have had my first treatment and am looking forward to the second. They are normally spaced one month apart, four are usually recommended. I am happy to say that my right eye seems to be watering less and the left that was sore to the touch is no longer uncomfortable.
I'd like to comment also on the office. It is bright, clean and beautifully decorated. It was a pleasure to sit in the waiting room. And last but not least, the staff. They are sweet, kind and professional. Truly it was a wonderful experience all around. I've had many many treatments now from Dr mendese and they're always very effective and she is knowledgeable, kind and gentle with the IPL process. I would recommend this to anyone who...
Read moreI had a comprehensive eye exam and contact fitting with Dr. Mandese, but after three months of trying different lenses, my right eye still didnât feel right. Given my high astigmatism and the need for custom lenses, I understood the delay, but I was disappointed that my right-eye prescription still wasnât right after months of adjustments. I was also surprised to learn that the office only accepts medical insurance for eye exams, not vision insurance. As a healthy, asymptomatic 33-year-old, I only needed a routine vision check and updated contact prescriptionânot a full medical exam. Because the exam wasn't intended to diagnose or manage a medical condition (such as glaucoma, cataracts, or diabetes), my medical insurance didnât cover anything, leaving me with a much higher bill than expected. The decision to refuse vision insurance for routine eye exams seems to serve no purpose other than charging patients higher medical rates. Ultimately, I went to Costco for a much cheaper exam ($149 vs $240) and a much better-fitting prescription. *Additionally, I found my interactions with Toni, the office manager, to be unnecessarily difficult. She often appeared annoyed at any request or question I had, and was standoffish and impatient during every interaction, in person and over the phone. Likewise, my husband had a...
Read moreI was recommended by my parents and I am so glad I took their advice! From the moment I checked in till I left I felt comfortable and enjoyed the entire experience!! I had been putting off my eye appointment for many years getting by with readers and eventually having trouble seeing distance as well. Dr. Mandese and her assistant were so efficient and really took a lot of time giving me a thorough exam. Dr. Mandese was not only professional with all her explanations, suggestions and recommendations she was a joy to converse with. I have found my eye doctor for as long as she practices!! Dotty, who helped me pick out glasses, not only found a pair that looked good on me they also had a feature that helps prevent the arms from breaking. The young lady at the front desk was able to accommodate my health insurance because my particular eye insurance wasn't accepted (I knew this going in) so I expected to pay cash, extremely pleasant and helpful. This is the way a business should be run from the moment you enter until the time you leave!! You made my day!! Thank you to the wonderful Doctor and staff at Atlantic Vision Center.
