9/2018 I have to retract my 5 Star Rating. Since July 2018 - Four of our "Take Out" orders were either missing sides, the main entree, desserts, sauces/dressings etc.. Also the regular menu items we've ordered for 2+ years have been wrong and when we mentioned it, we were told that we ordered the wrong items. We've noticed that the staff has been apologizing on behalf of the owner and the fact that he wants us to hurry up and order, he wants to close down the grill, he wants to close out the checks, he's in a bad mood or being impatient etc... We generally arrive around 6pm/7pm. Tonight was the final straw. I was going to take my order "To Go". I arrived at 8:15pm. I ordered a drink and appetizer. Then @ 8:30 the waitress apologized saying that the owner wanted me to hurry up and decide on my order. I told her I hadn't decided yet and she apologized again saying he was pushing her to get my order. At that point I had enough. I decided to just go home and have leftovers. My bill arrived $20.00 with no sales details. The waitress said that seemed weird to her. I paid it, wrote a note on the check saying I was tired of being treated rudely several weeks in a row. The business closes at 9pm and we've never stayed past closing, we've never been rude, unruly or picky. My son and husband both were dumbfounded that I was being pressured to "hurry up" @ 8:30 to put in my "To Go" order. We all have difficult days/weeks etc.. but treating consistent weekly customers this way is not a wise way to run a business.
This is one of our family regulars! There are other "Greek" restaurants around but we prefer Athenian Grill because they are more authentic. The "Other" establishments items are greasier and simply don't even taste the same. A couple of our family favs are the Spanikopita and Dolmades. The Tzatziki Sauce is the bomb! Its also nice to know that they value their customers enough to add items such as Decaf Coffee when requested. My husband finishes off his dinner w/Decaf Coffee and when they didn't have it, he wrote a request on the back of his check. The next week they had it in stock for him - which was very much appreciated. If there was 1 thing I could change (its not really a negative), I WISH THEY HAD MOUSSAKA!! Its actually a hard food item to find. We've gotten to know all the staff there and they are always very...
Read moreThe best Greek food in Indian Trail! If you're looking for consistency, great desserts, and some amazingly large platters; you need to try Athenian Grill. I am originally from New York and after living in the area for almost 11 years, I thought that the perfect Greek place would never be found. It was not until I was driving home from work one afternoon when I saw this place, I figured I would pull in and play Russian Roulette with my tastebuds once again. I was greeted at the door by Dani, a short red haired girl with a vibrant personality and a smile that would make the angriest curmudgeon grin. She was timely with my order (despite having three other tables) and was above and beyond polite and courteous. I ordered the Chicken Souvlaki Platter with Greek Fries and a Greek Salad. When my food arrived I was astonished at the portions, they could feed a small army and it was for under $10! The meal was AMAZING. The chicken tips were marinated in a garlic and salt marinade, served over yellow rice. The Greek Salad had all the perfect fixings that would put some other restaurants' Greek salads to shame. And the Greek fries...To die for! Fresh cut fries, hand cut every single day and seasoned with garlic, salt, and pepper. If you're looking for American food as well, I recommend the Double Big Boy Burger. It's basically a Big Mac (but healthier)...
Read moreI am so sad. I’ve been waiting since we moved here to try this place out. Simply because I have an obsession for Avgolemono soup and they only serve it during the colder months. So tonight was my night! I ordered the “soup”, and a vegetable pita with Greek salad. I tasted my husbands rice and his fries. The soup unfortunately had zero trace of lemon, making it taste bland and not correct. It was also close to room temperature. The pita was awful. I eat a lot of Greek food. Everywhere I’ve lived, worked or stayed I’ve hunted down the Greek restaurants to try them. I’ve never had a veggie pita that was cold, with cold raw veggies and pasta salad inside. The pita itself was yummy and even the pasta but I expected marinated grilled or broiled veggies inside my pita. Not the case. The salad was a normal Greek salad but the dressing was a thick flavorless oil. This was one disappointment after another. I tried my husbands rice and it too was tasteless. The fries brought me back as they were yummy. Needless to say it all went in the trash except for the soup. I was determined to have my favorite soup just how it’s intended to taste. So, I heat it up, piping hot and I squeezed a fresh lemon in. Delish! Dinner isn’t a complete flop for this Greek loving...
