Was told, flat out, "unfortunately we cannot sell any of our bread."
By a place with bread in the title. A place that includes bread as a side with most purchases. A place that has multiple bread items on the physical menua. My question was about buying a single full baguette. There was no further conversation about buying multiple "sides" of baguette to make up one loaf's worth, or explanation that they were out of baguette for the day. Just a flat "we cannot sell any of our bread."
Despite both the app and website both confirming Panera Bread as a corporation, and this one specifically, has the ability in the POS to just sell a customer a baguette.
I get the impression this was crossed wires and a manager inside has a whole backstory about like, they were out and didn't want to explain it, or they have a big catering order coming up the next day. I don't know, there was enough lag time between "let me ask my manager" and the answer that clearly a substantive conversation happened.
Still, I remain BAFFLED at the idea of not only refusing to sell baguette from a bread-based quick service restaurant, but there was also zero attempt to transition into selling something else. No "we have bread bowls, bagels, other bread items perhaps?"
Just a flat "no" and "sorry" as I drove away.
Ludicrous.
Also let's be real, outside of this specific incident: overpriced hospital cafeteria food that's so rudderless in its identity they put caffeine...
Read moreRude drive thru worker. When I gave her my # she basically didn't listen and I had to repeat. Not a big deal to me but she was rude from the start. I then asked what soups they had because it was 7p and I was trying to order something they had on hand (to not ask for something they had to make or whatever, this was my reasoning). She then replies to me, same soups on our menu in her wonderful, childish, snotty tone she had been using the entire time. I then went in to ask to talk to a manager and she proceeded to tell me (with her headset on) that she is the acting store manager. I then asked who it was that was on the speaker in the drive-thru and she told me she couldn't give out a name. So when I said I was going to come back to the store tomorrow she then tells me she's the acting store manager that she's not a manager and then she gave me his name, the manager's. I travel for work and Panera Bread used to be my number one go to. This is the second Panera Bread that has had some young person working there treating customers as if they owe them something or that it is a burden to do thw job they are getting paid to do. Rude, childish and unprofessional staff in the evening. Sad to say I will no longer be using Panera. You can thank Piper....
Read moreMy fiancee and I visited the Panera Bread on the west side this week, and was pleasantly surprised. We haven't been to Panera in a while, since last fall I believe and was excited to see some new menu items so wanted to give them a try.
They have some personal sized pizzas at the moment, and I got some sort of chicken salad which was great.
Quality of food was really good, service was fast, staff was friendly. Wait time was roughly 10 minutes from when we ordered. Price was around $35 for both of us for meals, drinks, and desserts, and left with some leftovers.
Presentation of food is great as well. Love that they have tablets you can order on as well as having the option to order in person if you like. Always good to see companies embrace technology in creative ways to better serve customers.
Super clean environment and feels modern and fresh with decor and furniture. Wish more resteraunts in Evansville would have this level of design and thought put into their lobby and seating areas.
I will say the food definetly tastes great, and feels different than a lot of other resteraunts. I would come out of my way to go visit a Panera if I wanted something off their menu. I haven't had food I haven't liked yet...
