This is a unique little spot but we had some problems. We went for the 1st time for Valentine's Day, and I don't think we will go back.
The server was super nice (although did not check on us at all after the food came and we were missing items ordered). The atmosphere was great (although they could do without the TVs playing sports - it just does not go with the eclectic atmosphere and music playing). My problem was they have no alternative for people with any allergies (especially dairy allergies , as butter is on almost all their items) and hardly any gluten free options. Therefore, all my high-end and pricey food was bland and very dried out. There was no taste. So, if you cannot use real butter, there is no sauces or seasonings available ? From my understanding they make everything from scratch.
As I mentioned, they also forgot a steak topping I ordered, which is fine, but I asked if they were going to bring it and waiter apologized and said he would get it. I waited 20 more minutes because the item was to go with the very expensive steak (while my food got cold) and they never brought it out. The waiter was almost non-existent checking on us. Ended up eating half my meal and then just told them to take it off.
The biggest problem was their menu price did not match the charge receipt. My husband did not want to complain, but it was over a $10 difference per meal?? I dont understand this. I have seen on other sites where others complained they do not show the correct prices. We only had 1 adult beverage and only 1 dessert and ended up paying $200 for 2 people (with standard tip). My husband loved his meal, but mine was pretty bad.
They are also known for their desserts, but you cannot have even one if you have dairy or gluten allergies. I was told by the waiter there are NO OPTIONS for either. Im used to this, but most restaurants now have some kind of dessert options for vegans or gluten-free. ...
Read moreOver rated or has this place just went down hill from when these 5 star reviews were left?! Drove an hour and half to eat here for the first time and wow what a disappointment. For starters they were not busy at all and turned multiple people away saying they are full? We got seated in this tiny room with about 3 tables in it and we were seated within arms length of another 4 person party, the tables were so close together that the waitress couldn’t even get in between them, very claustrophobic feeling. We then found out that they were doing a limited menu due to being short staffed which out of 10 entrees they had listed, 8 of them where seafood… wish I would have been told this when I made reservations as we both are not a fan of seafood, but obviously I understood and ordered the one steak entree they had listed, orders it medium well and after waiting an hour for our food(they were not busy) my steak came out and was cooked to rare, baked potato looked and tasted like it’s been sitting out for days. And after flagging down the waitress their solution was to put my already cut steak back on the grill instead of grilling a new one. I didn’t really get a choice and they came back with the same steak and it was burnt on the outside and was so dried out it was not edible. So for a 50 dollar meal it was the most blandest, terrible cooked food I have ever had. My husbands meal was not good either and fries were not cooked all the way through. We do not like to complain but when you are paying this much for food, you expect at least decent food. On top of all of this, the desserts which is a big deal here, we were told could be a 45 minute wait for a slice of cheesecake?! Not sure what the hype is about this place but you can get way better food at Texas Roadhouse for a fraction...
Read moreTo start, you absolutely need a reservation to come here. We made a reservation for dinner on a Wednesday and saw two separate groups get turned away. Because your reservation ensures you get at least 2 hours for dinner, which you will need!
This place is a little crazy and apparently a ND classic. I’ve lived up here my whole life and never been here. As soon as you enter your senses are assaulted by everything on the wall, which will take all dinner to look at! It appears to be some hybrid Christmas theme with local lore.
The menu is also crazy in that the portion sizes are huge. Prepare to share or take home. We ordered the baked Brie for our appetizer as well as the baked garlic. We easily could’ve had just one appetizer for 4 women. Both were delicious but if I had to choose the Brie was easier to eat and very tasty.
All the reviews stated the burger was the best so our whole table ordered burgers. This was a mistake. The burgers are massive and easily 1 lb of meat each. I wish I could say the burgers were good, they weren’t. They are allegedly made out of filet mignon, I find that hard to believe. If it’s true it means our burgers were way overcooked. I would not order them again especially for the price.
Desserts are what this place is known for and none disappointed. Got the key lime pie and it was delicious. Our service was a bit weird because we were being helped by a server in training. It feels like our table was forgotten about because our dinner took over 2.5 hours and our orders were pretty simple. Overall I’ll be back but maybe just for desserts...
