I visited Café Patachou in Broad Ripple and was less than impressed. I ordered the Patawich, which consists of a pork sausage patty, cheese, pesto, and a hard-fried egg on an English muffin. I requested chicken sausage as a substitute, and my server asked if links were okay, which they were.
When my sandwich arrived, it was drenched in pesto and had a single chicken sausage link placed in the center of the muffin. I asked if this was typical, and my server mentioned that the original sandwich comes with only one patty and that chicken sausage wasn’t a common substitute. She did offer to bring me another link, but I declined, as I had already shaved down my muffin to accommodate the one provided. Despite the overwhelming amount of pesto, the sandwich was somehow still bland. This was disappointing because I was able to taste the chicken sausage on its own (my friend had ordered some à la carte), and it was delightful.
There were a few other hiccups during the meal—my friend’s egg was mistakenly placed on my plate, which wasn’t a huge deal but still a mix-up. On the bright side, the French toast was tasty, and the mimosa was delicious, seemingly made with fresh-squeezed orange juice.
Overall, while there were some highlights, my main dish left much to be desired. After this visit, I’m unlikely to return. The experience felt overpriced...

I have not been overtly impressed by Cafe Patachou before today.
I do really like a number of the other Patachou concepts (particularly Napolese and Public Greens). But whenever I find myself at Patachou's original location, I find myself enjoying my food. But am mildly annoyed at the self-serve coffee and that my breakfast food is probably $2-3 cheaper at many diners across the city.
So I found myself at Patachou today on New Year's Day and today I wanted to try something different. Something that isn't on every diner's menu.
I went with the Cuban Breakfast and really enjoyed myself.
The rice acts as a good base. There is just enough white cheddar to add flavor but not overpower the dish. But the star ingredient was the spinach-jalapeño pesto, which gives you just enough kick for some flavor but not too much for being so early in the morning.
I also ordered one of those double chocolate cookies.
Okay, I didn't say I'd go outside of my comfort zone for every part of the order.
Overall, I enjoyed my meal here because I ordered something different, something that is probably hard to find at most breakfast places in town.
So if you end up here, order something other than your standard breakfast food. And I think you'll be...
Read moreThis is the second Cafe Patachou I’ve eaten at and this location is just as great as the other. Myself and Wife had the pleasure of dining with one of our three lovely daughters for breakfast this morning. We arrived around 8:30am and the place was already a flutter of activity and chatter. We were greeted and seated right away. QR code on table top to scan for menu. If you want coffee, it’s help yourself grab a cup and choose your poison. The coffee here is rich and wonderful, I got the house blend. It was hot delicious with a great aroma. For breakfast this morning the Wife chose THE HIPPIE WITH A BENZ Spinach, tomatoes, mushrooms, feta And I chose THE OMELETTE YOU CAN’T REFUSE Bacon, white cheddar, sour cream, potatoes The Daughter chose something new on the menu, the - NEW! THE DOUBLE MAJOR Old Major Chorizo, cheddar, avocado, salsa And of corse we ordered some cinnamon toast. All three of us quite enjoyed our food as usual and stayed chatting awhile after. This is a nice place for breakfast/brunch. Parking here is not an issue. Outdoor dining weather permitting. This establishment offer’s slightly upscale dining without the pretense and higher prices. Just great food and service, I think this can be one of your favorite places just like it’s becoming...
