Zero stars!
A friend and I decided on lunch here Wednesday June 21 after realizing we were both in the Castleton area on the same day.
It took a good amount of time to even get menus.
I ordered their 'black forest' salad with a steak substitution, and specifically requested 'no croutons or cheese or anything like that'.
My salad was served with a big ol' bread roll RIGHT ON the plate. I'm allergic, but thought my request of 'no croutons or anything like that' was enough to say I didn't want BREAD with my SALAD. I don't like to make a big deal about my allergies in front of friends. I just set it on the table. Thought he might use it for his soup.
My friend ordered the wings, and the mushroom soup. He was recommended the Thai Sweet Chili glaze and ordered that.
The first thing we both noticed was how SWEET everything was. He said his wings tasted like sugar. My salad was supposed to come with mandarins- sure, CANNED mandarins. Gordon Ramsay would be furious. Any chef worth his salt would be. It takes less than one minute for a skilled chef to wedge a mandarin. (We surely had waited long enough for that to have happened.)
The Cherry 'vinaigrette' was thick and stodgy, definitely NOT a 'vinaigrette'- and once again LADEN with sugar.
The steak I ordered on the salad wasn't medium, it was medium rare. It wasn't even sliced through, and I had to make a bit of a mess trying to use their (dull) knife to cut through it. NEVER serve steak on a salad that still needs to be cut. You're expecting the customer to cut into a filled bowl....
The description of the salad said 'a bed of mixed greens'- had I known it was just a bowl of tasteless iceberg, with ONE piece of curly Kale as a 'garnish' I would have ordered something else. It's very 'old' thinking to have tasteless cheap greens and expect the guest to drown it in so much dressing they don't notice. Had I been served a real vinaigrette, and not Cherry-flavored French dressing, it might have been palatable... just barely.
Millennials expect salad to taste like salad, not dressing, and expect greens to be GREEN not sickly clear-white. And we don't expect canned food on our salad.
Our drinks sat empty for fifteen minutes. They could have easily sold us another two or three drinks, and increased their own wages considerably.
Oh and that mushroom soup my friend ordered? Never ever RECEIVED his soup.
Save yourself the diabetic coma from the sugar (and horribly inattentive service) and go to any of the other wonderful lunch places this city...
Read moreMy family, 2 kids (6 & 7 yr) and 4 adults went here at 5pm on a Sunday night 12/4. This was suggested by my parents who also joined us. Initial impression was inviting. Nice host greeting and seated within a few minutes. During this short wait my wife and I both looked at each other and said the same thing "welcome to Miami" perfectly on time to the music being played (Will Smith - Miami) a little on the louder side for it being more of a restaurant, not a dance club, IMO. We laughed it off and continued to enjoy our dinner as we watched the dining area around us get transformed into an amazing holiday party for a very large group. Had to be close to 70-100 people. As my wife and I were being transported back to 2001 or so by Bone Thugs and Harmony, Aaliyah, Sugar Ray and many others, they did that transformation very quickly. After all that room setup stuff, maybe they will change the music to match the holiday party? Nope. Continued our entire stay. There were four TVs in the dining area we were in. All of these were very distracting to our kids. They barely ate any food. Not shocking as they were trying to understand Modern Family and other shows I did not recognize. At one point I looked up to see someone with a major head wound. Really? My son was really distracted now. We do not watch stuff like that with them. They brought us an old coloring book and a bucket of crayons when we asked so we could keep them from the TV. My daughter was not impressed by a book 70% complete. So, sorry, atmosphere was not for me and my family... food was great. Had seafood bisque and ribs that were as advertised: juicy and fall off the bone. Only negative was the greenbeans that were on the side still had a large piece of the vine on some of the beans. I get that if you pour it out of a frozen bag but at a plated restaurant, could have been a bit more observant, imo. My wife had Diablo Penne with shrimp. She enjoyed it all. We did have a first for us with this dish. Maybe it is normal but we were all shocked that the shrimp mixed with the sauce (not sitting on the top) still had the tail on them. Is that normal? You decide. Either way my wife was not a fan of working to not choke on a piece of shrimp tail. Service was good. She handled her composure when I brought up these concerns. She simply said, I will notify the kitchen. Perfect. The night was still nice but I doubt we will be back for this...
Read moreIt is unfortunate that I feel the need to write this review. I have always had good experiences at George's. We visited the restaurant last night and had one mishap after another. The greeter (and I use this term loosely) walked past us several times without acknowledging our presence. I mentioned this to another employee and was told he was new and that they would work with him. After being seated, another couple was sat next to us. They were so close it was as we were at the same table. I asked about social distancing and if this situation could be remedied. The couple was moved, only for another couple to be sat right next to us again. I asked again if this could be remedied. The couple was moved, then the manager came over to ask me what the issue was regarding sitting others next to us. I explained to him, that I thought we were still practicing social distancing and if my request was out of line, we would be happy to leave. He said they were at 75% capacity and using all of their tables. We were left to feel very uncomfortable. There were empty tables all around us and I did not feel my question was out of line. We decided to leave, taking our food home; which was unfortunate. Our food was cold and a total waste. I realize it is my choice to leave; however I do not feel the venue should make customers feel uncomfortable for inquiring about practice. In addition, I thought 75% would mean just that 75% and not using all of the tables. I am very disappointed with...
