If you’re craving for a fire SANDWICH then you have to try Greiner’s Submarine Sandwich located in the Garfield Park area.

Ehh Regretable!! 3rd and last time going to this spot. First time I went was in the winter around lunch hour...thought the sub and the service was great. 2nd visit...little chaotic sandwitch not as good but still good. And the 3rd and final was just not it! I paid $24 and change for a veggie and a turkey sandwich. For starters I have never seen lunch meat microwaved before going in a toaster...and cheese nor mayo was added till after. Came in over 2 hours before close and they barely have veggies for one....but the toppings they do have are extremely wilted and soggy...they had a less than fresh taste and the bread was starting to taste stale and funky or just OFF. Also the guys whole demeanor was off putting, I'm always super polite and friendly and he was just like "uh-huh" "ya" and staring through me...however a customer came in behind me and was a complete 180 attitude laughing with the guy. Extremely disappointed in experience and quality...I was craving a sub badly and literally any other place would have been miles better. It was messily thrown together, not fresh, overpriced...I couldn't finish and my stomach hurts. Definitely one of the less than favorable ways I've spent $25 on my family. Do not recommend, even if it seems convenient don't! Also not the cleanest.

It was our first time there this afternoon. We happened to be in the area and wondered what we should eat. My wife Katy suggested we try Greiner's shop. It did not disappoint. While trying to decide on what to have, we found out they make a lot of the ingredients in house as well as the bread. In my indecision, I asked what was in a few of their sandwiches and so I asked about their tuna. Good tuna salad is really hard to find. The owner Lisa let me try it and told me it had red onion and celery in it. I chose the Tina tuna and my wife chose the 1969 hoagie. We both got fully dressed sandwiches, salad, lettuce, tomato, pickles, salt, pepper and a little oil and vinegar. We drove home and enjoyed our sandwiches. We did get to try their in-house brownies. They tasted incredible. I have to say that our interaction with Lisa, Chaney and the other workers there was refreshing. Getting good customer service, great food at a good price is really hard to come by. Good sandwich shops that aren't a chain are very rare nowadays. Definitely a place to return to and keep trying new things off the menu.

This place is so frustrating! The first time I went in was to get a sandwich for my wife. The entire ordering process was so painful because of the dimwitted and slow staff. I was there for almost 25 mins just to get one sandwich and most of the time it was just this guy trying to figure out how to input my order into an iPad.

My wife loves the cheese popcorn so today I thought I would get her a treat. I walk in and everyone that works there seems shocked that a customer has come in. I'm asked what I want and I say cheese popcorn. The lady behind the counter looks at a couple of women in the dining room for help. "He wants popcorn," she says almost nervous. The two women look at each other and then look at me. "You want popcorn?"

The woman calls out to another employee behind the counter to get me 2 bags of popcorn. The employee returns with the popcorn. I've now been waiting for 5 mins. The woman's tells the employee I need boxes for my popcorn. The employee comes back with 2 gift boxes and is trying to figure out how to fold the boxes correctly. I've now been here 7 mins. Once the boxes are finally assembled the woman tells the employee I need stickers for my boxes. I do not know what kind of stickers she is talking about and I am thinking maybe price tags or bar code stickers. Nope, just a sticker that reads, "YUM." I've now been here 9 mins. The lady behind the counter says $12.52. I am shocked at the price, but she explains that is the total for the guy sitting behind me who looks like he has been waiting 20 mins for a sandwich. The woman asks, "All you want is popcorn?" I tell her yes and she replies, "You came all this way just for popcorn?" First of all, she has no idea where I came from to get this popcorn. I did not parachute out of the sky nor was I wearing a space suit. I told her I lived in the neighborhood. Finally, after 15 mins I am told my total for two 2 ounce bags of popcorn, $8.72.

Maybe if the popcorn wasn't packed in a plastic bag, then placed in a box, and then decorated with a custom sticker you would not have to charge $4.25 for a bag of popcorn.

My wife is happy, but I am never going back into this place. The people working here have no idea what customer service is or know how to work at a decent speed. If you have an entire afternoon to order a sandwich then maybe this place is for you, but I prefer my simple restaurant orders to be taken and processed in less...

This place has gone incredibly downhill. I have been going to this place since I was a kid (now 29) and I used to love it till new management took over a few years back. The new management wants $1.00 dollar per extra pepperoncini. The owner tried to explain to me that she buys them imported, but come on, I can go buy a whole jar of those at Kroger for $3.00! About six months back, I went directly after work to go get my favorite sandwich (the hoagie) before they closed. I drove across town out of my path home with the knowledge that I would be there at least ten minutes before closing. As expected, I arrived ten minutes before close. The doors were locked, and when I knocked, the only worker in there ignored me for a few minutes before opening up the door. She then informed me that they were closed. I told her that Google said the restaurant is open and the hours posted on the door said they should still be open. She then begrudgingly and rudely slopped together my sandwich with no care and insisted that the sandwich be a cold one because she would not take the time to make a hot sandwich. The last straw for me was a couple months back, I went in there around 6:00PM, and there were two workers. One was making the sandwiches for a long line of customers and the other worker was talking to a patron that he obviously knew and was not helping the other worker in any way. He then passed a stack of cups for this patron he knew to put on the cup rack. The patron/employee's friend dropped the cups and proceeded to try to put one of the cups she dropped on the floor back on the rack for customer use. I will not be back. It is such a shame because this place has been a family favorite for literally decades, but I know my dad and I do not plan to return.

Response to Business Reply: Wow! Passive aggressive much? Just further shows your appreciation for quality customer service! I just started making reviews yesterday and plan to rate more businesses (positive reviews as well) going forward, so your comment about my reviews or the timeline of my review is not noteworthy. Also, I have been in your place of business when the female owner, who I believe I am speaking with, informed me the pepporocinis are an extra dollar per one. Maybe you have since lowered that...

A lot to say about this place. Pros: good food, big selection, comfortable dining area, and a small businesses.

Cons: bad food presentation, poor sandwich construction, half the prices aren't listed, too big of a selection, service was too slow, unclean kitchen area, and I have no idea what's on these sandwiches.

This place needs a lot of work, the foundation is there, but this place needs a major overhaul. I know this isn't quite fastfood, but I had two people behind me literally walk out because service was too slow. I had no idea what was on these sandwiches, I asked about 3 possible sandwiches when ordering. The menu is both a pro and a con. Big selection gives the customer a lot to choose from, but it also messes with the identity of the business. Don't be a submarine shop that sells pizzas, because guess what, you will lose money on those pizzas. Nobody will expect you to have them. The food was also good, not great. I had no idea the mac was going to have bacon bits, sour cream, and breadcrumbs. Just advertise it. Mac was too bland (little salt), and the excess amount of bacon ruined it. Sandwich construction was bad because the bread was way too hard and all the toppings fell out, bigger bread or a little less toppings per topping. There is your free consult Greiner's. I also suggest you listen to the customer and these reviews instead of arguing with the reviewers. I could see this place going bankrupt soon, if not, the owner is dumping their own money into this place. Goodluck...
