I just went for a cake tasting. During the first call, I scheduled my appointment only to realize after I got off the phone that I was never asked how many people would be attending the tasting and what flavors I wanted. I called back to let them know that my mom and I would be coming and we would a serving to go home to my fiance. I was told they provide so much cake that, that should not be an issue. Then, I let them know there were certain flavors we would be looking for. I was told that is not how tastings work. They would provide me with the flavors they have on hand to prove to me how excellent their cake truly is. I explained that my fiance had very few requests for this wedding and one of them was chocolate cake with cookies 'n cream filling. I was told they make that all the time and that should be fine. Cut to about a month later, because they are not super flexible with cake tasting days and times and my mom and I go to the tasting. I live in Bloomington so it was about an hour and a half drive for me. We were asked to take a seat. After a while the staff seemed confused and asked me when my appointment was. When I let them know a woman came out to tell me that Larry, their wedding cake baker and designer, was not here, but he should be on the way. Cut to about 10 mintues later and I find out Larry will not be attending my tasting today he has been thinking it is Thursday all day long and so has already made other plans! What!? So, a woman who I guess makes savory biscuits tries to run the tasting the best she can. She brings out a decent amount of cake and then proceeds to rapid fire questions at me so I can barely enjoy the tasting. The cakes taste fine. They would suite a lot of palletes, but it is nothing extrordinary. She proceeds to ask me a whole bunch of questions that are already on the sheet I filled out that is in her hands. She never quotes me a price and starts trying to get me to give her my budget and send her design pictures via email all the while holding my phone. I am pretty sure I will not be getting my cake from their due to the main guy not showing up and the inflexibility in customer service. She starts to get nervous at this point and begins bragging about how popular they are now and how people are trying to get them to do tv shows. At the end of the tasting, the lady did finally get us some cookies 'n cream filling to go with the chocolate cupcake they gave me to take home to my fiance. Lastly, she says you should really come back for another tasting. I am like I did. I scheduled an appointment. I had to call you twice and I drove an hour and a half here?! Seriously? I would not trust them with your big day. I guess the previous owner Kim has just recently stepped back from the company. My dad used to always buy his cupcakes and cakes from here, because Kim was so fantastic and made in his words, "The most delish commercial kitchen cakes he has ever had." Unfortunately, the new management is not living up...
Read moreI searched a few different bakeries and finally settled on Kims Kakes from all the reviews. I was looking for something that was super important to me as far as design and a few places admitted they probably wouldn't be able to handle my request. While presenting a picture via email and in person the rep at Kims Bakery said it would be no problem. I went over and over how important that this was to be identical to the picture I was showing them. The cake was for my anniversary and we are new to town so had this been handled correctly Kim would have had a life long customer. I went to pick up the cake and it was not done correctly. They redid it then and there... On my mistake I left unsatifisied with their redo. So I called back and Kim gave me her personal number to send her pictures on it and that she would follow back up. I never heard anything back. It's extremely disappointing because I think she could sense the disappointment in my voice and the fact that she, the owner, didn't follow back up shows very little compassion. I'm giving them a three because in terms of the cake... It tasted amazing. I do believe credit should be given where it's due and they certainly have their cakes down just not the decorating part...
Read moreI feel very conflicted about how many stars to put for my review. We ordered our wedding cake from here. Process was very easy and I met with somebody there to talk about exactly what we wanted. We even bought a test cake separately that was just wonderful. The wedding cake was supposed to be a Bavarian cream strawberry-filled cake. It represented the very important memory of someone we loved and was really the only detail about the wedding we cared about because of the symbolism. However on our wedding day, part of our cake was replaced with blueberries and lemon filling. We were so surprised when we cut the cake and got blueberries. To this day, it's a mystery as to how much of the cake was replaced with blueberries because some guests did receive strawberry cake. I just think that they should've notified us with this huge change on a very important day. We paid a lot of money and it was not a minor mistake. My husband and I are pretty laid-back people and we would not have had a problem with it if we had known. But the way we found out was so surprising and I feel like not knowing made it worse. It felt really dishonest and unprofessional. We were completely hoodwinked! Don’t risk your wedding day by...
