Last summer, I worked for the NY Gourmet Deli under the owner Jay. During my time there I experienced meeting some of the best people I’ve ever met in the restaurant industry and got to try all the sandwiches as well. During shifts I mostly cleaned around the store, stocked sodas, and washed dishes. During several shifts I was offered free drinks and sandwiches because that’s just how they are. From the cleanliness to the family ran corner store aesthetic, everything about the Deli is worth taking note of. An authentic Bronx style deli shop with incredible sandwiches. Jay being from the Bronx himself and his family would from time to time exchange stories and just bring that NY style to how he ran the business. He was always respectful to everyone I saw and made sure I was taken care of, so the respect was always mutual. Having met everyone from both locations in Indy I can safely say there wasn’t a person I disliked while working there, all the guys were very friendly and from starting off as a local customer going in all the time to eat their sandwiches, this is a place where it’s highly easy to become a regular. After this last summer, I’m glad I found them and joined the staff as all I was shown was Inspiring entrepreneurship, dedication, hard work, honest people, and a great way to spend a summer.
As far as what the store has to offer you’ll see all types of snacks, soda varieties you’ve never seen before anywhere else, and hands down the greatest hoagie style sandwiches in Indy. Personal favorites include the Bronx Special, Sammy Special, Night Club, Italia, and of course the Chop cheese a NY Staple. (You can’t go wrong all of them are fire) This may be a long review but the consistency and honesty of this restaurant have given it so much appeal to me as well as seeing the character of everyone who works here. Try it out some time and you’ll see it for yourself. Ask yourself, How good does a great priced, bore head premium meat, New York style sandwich sound right now, with whatever sides you need, seriously go get at this store! Glad I could share this review because we need more places like they...
Read moreGreeted when I walked in which was awesome. Gave me time to look at the menu and didn’t rush me. Very good customer service. Very clean inside and all the food areas near and everything covered. Looks terrific! Perfect anytime but platters o only during breakfast hours. there is a ramp for access and marked handicap spots in front. The door opens out with no automation, so I’m not sure if that’s accessible. There is definitely no eat in. This is definitely take away inside. You can also find chips some specialty water ice cream to purchase and some candy so it’s kind of a little bit like a convenience store.
I ordered the New Yorker, which is hot pastrami with Swiss cheese and mustard. I upgraded to the tots and you get a can of soda as well. The sandwich was hot and delicious. It was on a roll and it had melted cheese and the meat was slightly spicy. Yum reminds me when I lived in New Jersey. I will...
