Shallo's Antique Restaurant & Brewhaus — Restaurant in Indianapolis

This is one of our favorite places. So I was very disappointed in our visit this evening. We were seated right away which was great since it was a little after 5pm on New Years Eve. That's where the good luck ended. Nobody came to our table for at least 10 minutes. Alexis came and took our drink order. We should have assumed this wasnt going to go well just by the unfriendliness of our waitress. After 15 mins longer, we received our drinks. She walked away without even taking our order. She came back again and we ordered an app. Again, before we could order food, she walked away. Since someone from the kitchen brings the food, the app came within 10 mins. After another 10 mins, she comes back to take our order. Or at least we thought. She stopped at the table next to us who arrived much later than us. She took their complete order, including food. She did stop to take ours afterwards. We received our food maybe 20 mins later. My salad was mostly brown. The rest of our food was fine, a little hard to eat without drinks since she didn't come back for refills for a very long time. When she finally did, she forgot. We had to ask again when she came close enough to flag her down. We waited a while for her to come back again so I could ask for a box and the check. She forgot these as well. I actually had to ask 2 more times. We were there for another 20 mins after we finished just to wait on a box and the check. It wasn't super crowded. We could hear other customers near us saying how bad the service was as well. This might not be the best line of...

Shallo's is like a hidden gem of Greenwood. It's been around a long time but you may not know anything about it and just drive by. I have seen it for years and always just thought of it as a bar and since we do not drink, I never went. Well during Covid days of closures and difficulties eating in restaurants, my husband and I ate here because it was one of the few places open late one night when we were out. We were surprised by both the dood and service and have been coming back ever since.

It is NOT a 21 and over establishment like I thought. They have a kids menu with the classic options and plenty of space for family seating outside of the bar area. While they do have a bar and a large selection of alcohol, it really is the food that has kept this place in business for so long. Their menu has a wide selection of options ranging from Mexican to classic American pub. My husband really likes their burritos and Buffalo chicken. I love their teriyaki chicken Alfredo. I also highly recommend getting their homemade chips and ranch for an appetizer....probably the best I have ever had. If you have an air fryer at home, you can get the large order and enjoy these at home as leftovers and they are just as good.

We have also always been impressed with the service when we go. I have been at different times of day from lunch to a date night with different servers each time and no complaints. Always quick and friendly.

So quit driving by this place and give it a try. It's unique in it's atmosphere with good food...

We like to grab dinner at Shallo's and the food is usually solid but on Sunday night we had several issues.

Start with this one....best beer selection you will find in town!

Ordered the Taco Nachos as an appetizer and thought they would come out quickly like they usually do and be the first thing delivered to the table. That was not the case. For some reason they brought out my chicken velvet soup a good ten minutes before the nachos. This is my favorite soup, but it was not even warm. Didn't see our waitress until the nachos were delivered.

Nachos are simple but always delicious.

I ordered the wings (hot BBQ) and my wife ordered the breaded tenderloin with their chips. The wings were hot when I bit into them but the tip of the wing that you don't eat was ice cold (damn near still frozen). Thought maybe I just grabbed a freak wing but almost all of them were that way. Not sure how the meaty part got so hot and tasted so good while the tip was ice cold.

If you like a huge, flattened breaded tenderloin this is one of the best you will find. Wife gets this almost every time we go, and she said it was excellent this time.

Not our best food experience but we will give it another try soon. It is past time for the interior of Shallos to be updated. Smells like some of the house parties I went to in college and all of the tables/chairs/booths...
