Van's Fish Market — Restaurant in Indianapolis

I know this place is a fish market, but it reeks of old fish odor! In fact the smell hits you in the face as soon as you enter the door and throughout the entire store! There was a man standing in a small room cleaning fish (no gloves) in a medium sized stainless steel sink with the door open....if there was a door!

I walked around the whole store to see where to pickup my food because I honestly couldn't smell anything cooking!

There was a man at the cash register who asked if I had a call in order, and when I said yes, he left the cash register and went towards the back of the store and returned with my food!

The bag was pretty lightweight so I opened the container and was very disappointed at the size of the 2 little pieces of fish which weren't even hot nor were the fries that came with the meal, along with a small side of coleslaw which was the highlight of the whole dinner!

They also sell a variety of international products as well, sorry, but I would never purchase anything else in there....cooked or not from this...

I never had fish that tasted so bad it tasted like the grease was old and the fish was over cooked. I called that night it was 7:50 ten minutes before close and they said if I came back they would refund my money. I brought all the food back and was denied my refund I drove 30 minutes to get the food and 30 minutes to bring it back, and they told me nothing was wrong with the fish. Both of us didn’t eat are meals so I wasted 30 dollars and gave the food back too. I was also told that they would never take my order again, and that’s fine because I would never attempt to get that nasty food again it was probably spoiled fish I don’t know it was horrible. This place is where you go to find seafood at a very cheap price. However, it smells as if I need to be concerned about quality and freshness of their product. They have the best prices on snow crab by the pound in the city and they carry exotic meats at a reasonable value. If they paid more attention to the overall look, smell and feel of their establishment, they would really take over the seafood market in the 25 mile radius! They also will allow you to pick out your fresh fish and they will cook it for you. They also cook dinner platters. I give this place 5.8/10...
