A couple of weeks ago, we were in search of some good local food; a place we had not been to before. Looking at the reviews of Vito's, we felt like we had to give this place a chance. Upon pulling into the parking lot, the experience had all the makings of just what we were looking for; a modest looking place on the outside, and a quaint authentic Italian vibe on the inside. The type of place that you might say the looks can be deceiving. Our experience was fantastic from start to finish. For starters, we were able to make reservations for us and our friends. Upon arriving, we waited maybe 10-15 minutes, but we were there a little early, and it was a Friday night. I got so wrapped in the delicious food that I only thought to get a picture of my desert. We started with the bruschetto (best we've ever had) and minestrone, which was also delicious. The fresh bread was also great! We had the pesto dish (I don't remember the name now, and I had angel hair past dish that featured a cream based red sauce with chicken and Italian sausage. At this point, I was stuffed, so I got some tiramisu to go as I couldn't leave without one of my favorite deserts at a place that was on point all night. On top of all this, the service was excellent; I could barely get my drink half down before it was filled again, and the staff were friendly. All 4 of us were very impressed, and we...

Pros- Friendly server and very quick food (sadly, probably because it is not made fresh when ordered). Food was mid, but significantly lacking for the price. Seafood Alfredo had only a handful of shrimp and IMMITATION (fake!!) crab!! For $24, that's ridiculous! Wife had chicken pesto, also very mid, missing some of the listed ingredients (like pine nuts), and very small portions. Very small, simple salad served warm :/ and basic white roll bread swimming in oil/sodium. Bathroom was not ok- vent and wall surrounding it were gross/growing/so dirty/dusty. Employees and patrons are breathing this :/ Bathrooms are a place where attention to detail in cleaning matter! Rust on trashcan and mirror, papertowel holder crusty, just not OK for a restaurant restroom. Can't figure out how to upload photos, will add them if I can sort that out. Also, like many of the reviews state, they take the percentage of tip on the whole bill, including tax, which is not correct. I typically love to tip generously (40-50% minimum) but being petty like that is a poor choice by management and can diminish...

If you want traditional Italian food that’s simple but still delicious, you want Vito Provolone’s. We've been coming for years, and Vito's has easily become our favorite Italian restaurant on Indy's southside.

The atmosphere is wonderful — intimate but relaxed! Vito's is a family-owned restaurant and they care about their customers. The staff is always very accommodating and we always feel comfortable whether we're enjoying a date night or gathering with friends and family.

By now, we've had nearly every dish on the menu and they're all great. I love to start my meals with a cup of minestrone and some of their warm, fresh bread. For comfort food, I turn to the baked mostaccioli. The marinara is a bit on the sweet side for my taste, so I usually ask for extra garlic and that helps balance it out. Their pizzas make a great casual dinner. Or for something more rich and decadent, the chicken lamone is very flavorful without being too heavy.

They also have a wine that perfectly compliments each meal, which for me is a must for any good...

As always, the service was good. Sadly, the food was barely adequate. The salad, which used to be full of veggies and croutons, was iceberg lettuce, cheese, and onion. Blah! I ordered Chickan Giovanni. It was bland. It used to have a zip of chorizo that was missing. I could see ground something, but it had no taste. The pasta and chicken were very tender, but just not as flavorful as I had hoped. My husband enjoyed his fettuccine Alfredo. They brought bread, but it was doughy with almost no garlic flavor. They asked if we'd like more bread and I said no thanks, it wasn't very good. They brought us another loaf after apologizing, but it was just the same, doughy but no taste. The portions were about 2/3 of what they used to be. The prices have gone up. Mine was $22, and then 3 more for a diet coke. I did tip well because bland food is not the server's fault. Not sure if I will give it another try, but it won't be for a while!
