Isla Mujeres Modern Mexican Cuisine and Seafood — Restaurant in Indio

The four of us went here because the reviews were 4.5 stars and we wanted to take our mom someplace special and different than the times we have visited Indio before. Nothing here met our 4.5 star expectations, except for the friendly server. The entrées were not warm enough to fully enjoy, and the flavors were nothing special. It was edible and no one got sick, but it just wasn't enjoyable. I guess "Modern Mexican" means warm (not hot) food, small portions, and lots of money. We thought maybe our food wasn't served timely and that's how it was not warm enough to enjoy, but one of the orders was incorrect and the replacement item that came from the kitchen was barely warm also, and the thin plate was cool to the touch (like all of the others that had been when served). Maybe their plates don't hold heat like the authentic thick heavy white plates that other yummy Mexican restaurants use? Such a disappointment for a place with 4.5 stars. We really wanted to love this place, but all four of us felt like we were putting on a happy face, just trying not to be complaining so our mom would enjoy her birthday week dinner. Horrible service and very unprofessional. Ordered two orders of aguachiles, which sounded good but at first taste had an off taste. Regret even trying to eat them as they gave me and my family food poisoning the same night. Been sick since, tried calling the next day to get a refund on the order. Lady who picked up the phone said the manager is busy and we proceeded to explain the situation to her and she hit us with “go to the hospital and document it”. First of all why would I lie about food poisoning for something I was looking forward to eat? Second of all, are you going to pay my medical bill? Not all of us have the luxury of going to the hospital as we please. That doesn’t take away from the fact that me and my family have been throwing up and having stomach issues since eating here. Now I just wasted $50 on something that made me sick and they refuse to give me a refund. Manager do better with your staffing. And for the lady with the straight black hair who took the order the night of 06/19 and answered the phone 06/20 you should not be working in customer service with that...

Wanted very much to like this place right next to my office, and it has nice decor too. Onion doesn't sit well with my stomach, so I got two tacos with no pico de gallo. After delivering them completely covered with it the lady sees me picking off over half the filling and apologizes. She encourages me to get something else, so I ordered the enchiladas. These were also completely covered with raw onions. My reviews personal to my taste and stomach, but no effort was made to fix the situation. Nothing taken off and the enchiladas were were not eaten.
