Winchell's — Restaurant in Indio

Can't believe this is Winchells. Homeless people everywhere, no big deal though. One asked can I buy her a can of soda, no problem. The door and windows were extremely filthy, going to need hand sanitizer before eating anything. They didn't have many flavor donuts left, only buttermilk, muffins, and chocolate styles. I ordered half dozen, the guy doesn't speak a lick of English drops the box on the dirty floor, picks it up and fills it with my order. Many of the donuts had corners chipped away and the muffins too. Every single one was so hard a microwave couldn't make them eadable. They clearly was made several days ago and sat inside the display window without any cover, bugs are free to fly in or out as there isn't a glass on the other side. I paid 9.99 half dozen and $2 for a CAN of soda. Gave a few $ to the remaining Homeless outside who asked on my way to my car. Took my donuts home and tossed them in the trash after trying a hard bite or two. Worst donuts...

Love this Winchell's! My son and daughter in law live far away. They called my local Winchells and asked for them to package a dozen of donuts mixed with half of them in a particular color. The time had come to announce the sex of my next grandchild, as they were pregnant! The bill was paid over the phone by credit card. I was overwhelmed with joy to arrive with anticipation, plus super excited to leave with a box of a dozen donuts...which happened to be filled with pink donuts! It's a girl! I've been coming to this location over 10 years I've always been treated respectfully especially by the owner whose name I cannot recall. but approximately two weeks ago I came in and offered $2 to use the restroom after they said I couldn't use it if I made a purchase. Very disappointed in that I hope the owner responds to this review so I can change it in a more positive manner.
