Hutto Seafood & Wings-Irmo — Restaurant in Irmo

This is my third time here, and as they say... "The third times a charm." I had heard over a week ago that they had a .75 wing special only on Monday (as long as you but a beverage to go with). I checked it out ordering 6 dry lemon pepper wings and 6 boom boom sweet and spicy wings. They were so good I wanted to try again for consistency and makes some special requests.

Today, I ordered 6 LP (x-tra seasoning) and 6 Garlic Parm, and 10 dry BBSS ( x-tra seasoning) wings. They did not disappoint with the wings of the seasoning. I grew up with "finger licking good chicken.. " and everyone knows it was because of the 11 herbs and spices, so I wanted to ask Hutto to up their spice games and they UNDERSTOOD THE ASSIGNMENT!!!!! The batter/ breading puts you in the buttery crispy tempura space and they are fried PERFECTLY, no need to ask them to fry yours hard... they know exactly what they're doing. Crispy, well seasoned outside, with juicy flavorful meat inside. I'd give them a 4.5/5 because of a slight customer consideration issue. They were friendly, warm, and accommodating. I was asked as my order was bagged would I prefer ranch or Bleu cheese, and I answered Bleu Cheese. I had a total of 22 wings and when I got home I was given what looked to be two 1oz 'ish containers of their delicious house made Bleu cheese. I took off .5 because I think it should be standard 3-4 containers for that many wings. Or at least ask if two... is enough of you need more. When I previously ordered 12 wings I got two containers... so it just seemed logical since I added 10 more wings that it was a no brainer...I hope they see, hear, and consider this going forward because it's so good. ##fearlessfoodie...

We wanted to try this place, so we dined in. I tried the lunch special (daily from 11-4PM if I recall the sign at the counter correctly); fried whiting, with a side of ride and my wings seasoned with bang bang sweet and spicy. My husband had the friend basket (F2), he selected swai with hush puppies and fries. The seasoning on the wings was superb; the wings were large and juicy, with a deliciously crispy outside. I had a side of ranch for my wings, but in my opinion there turned out to be no need to use it because of how well the wings are seasoned. Both of our fish was the same; seasoned well, juicy on the inside, with a lovely crispy exterior. I appreciated the fact that the fries do not come seasoned, and they offer plenty of seasoning options at the self-serve area (where lids for drinks, spoons, napkins, etc are located). The service was prompt and the staff very welcoming. We can't wait to visit again!

Second visit. I'm really sad they aren't a bit closer to us, I'd likely be in here every week! After moving from another state I've been searching high and low for well-fried calamari that also contains the tentacles. Not only does Hutto have excellently fried calamari, they serve it with the tentacles! I ordered half a pound, and was more then satisfied. Also ordered an egg roll, crispy, delicious, and I wish...

All my food was TO GO. Packaging was nice, although I really don't like paper to go boxes for saucy food items (wings). The service was good, but a little slow on check out. Everything was good expect for the clam chowder... it was too thin, very tough clams, and it just didn't have enough flavor. The fried shrimp was excellent.

Small fried shrimp: 8.5/10 (great!) XL fried shrimp: 9/10 (great!) Fried flounder: 6/10 (too thin and a little dry) Fries: 7/10 (would have been 8 or 9 with some salt or other seasoning) - please season your fries! Hush pups: 6/10 (good flavor... inside texture was off - a little mushy) Wings: 7.5/10 (great flavor, but needed more crisp - could have been b/c they had been steaming in the paper container for 15 minutes). The bufalo sauce was great. House tartar: 8.5/10 (a little on the sweet side, but good) Clam chowder: 3/10 (not ordering again)

Overall rating: 6.9375/10 = 3.46875/5

I'll give them a 4 overall, because the service was friendly and the inside was very nice, new, and clean. However, food takes presedence - especially when my order is to go.
