Moose Jackson and Organic Grounds look across East A Street from each other and are both great coffee shops. We visited both business multiple times during the Christmas 2019 season. There is no Starbucks in town and with these two terrific places in town, I hope $tarbucks stays away. Both offer easy-to-access wifi, ample parking, and obviously have great coffee, much better than a convenience store.
Moose Jackson has a great menu with gluten free options, but unsure about cross-contamination in the kitchen. They offer a wonderful gluten-free custom panini option with all of the fixins for a great sandwich that is hard to find elsewhere. There are a handful of sweet options for both gluten sensitive and gluten insensitive folks. They offer gallon-sized to-go boxes of coffee with to-go cups for work events or family events where you don’t want to lug a coffee pot. Power outlets are a bit sparse for the working traveler, but carpeted floors and good-sized wooden chairs are comfortable for everyone from families with kids and toys to the boisterous Yooper kaffeeklatsch. The atmosphere is comfy home-y Northwoods mountains cabin, all the way down to the “warm flannel embrace” scented air freshener in the very clean bathroom. Looking forward to coming back for a...
Read moreThe menu is far too extensive, and writing it on a dozen wall and floor chalkboards make it confusing and a challenge to navigate, especially while you're having to stand in a long line while rangling children during a rush. The prices are not always clear, or written at all. The staff waiver from being polite to being outright rude. Tables are often dirty, debris all over the floor, there's always dried out food crumbs and dead, dried out flies in the windowsills right next to your table, and the bathrooms are dark and dirty. I would also stay away from the water bar. The water sits out in an open community pitcher, and the coffee creamer sits in an old thermos with a cheap plastic ice stick and the container smells like spoiled milk. There are other coffee shops that are clean, and far more accommodating with better food options and the food is fresh, and most of it brought in locally. This is not the case at Moose Jackson. Not one thing is provided locally, which I wouldn't mind if the food was...
Read moreAll I wanted was a cute cafe experience. Moose Jackson seemed it would fit just that. I confirmed hours on your website and on Google. Stood for 5 minutes waiting for someone to address us at 3:05pm. No problem though, we weren’t ready to order. We start to order and get a snarky comment that you close at 3:15? No where did it state that. Your website says 4, Google said 4, your door said normal hours resume 12/9. I much rather have been told NICELY that you closed at 3:15. I should have taken it as a sign to not stay however my friend was hungry. 30.00 for two sandwiches and drinks. Seems the owner was the “cook” and tossed our food on the counter instead of waiting for us to walk the 2 steps and hand it over. I ordered hot coffee and got a cold drink. Both coffee and tea tasted burned. Then a sandwich we ordered had tomatoes on it and he’s allergic. Even though we heard the order guy say to the owner no tomatoes. This ended up being a waste of 30.00 and a...
