Greek Islands Cuisine — Restaurant in Irvine

Disappointing. Ordered the Athena plate to go from here. The main problem is the portion size of the protein. This plate costs $16 and u get a quarter of a chicken breast and like 3 small shavings of gyro meat. The meager amount of chicken is lightly spiced and dry. The gyro meat is sausagey. The hummus has way too much tahini and not enough chickpea, literally feels like you're eating tahini. The taboule is average. The pita is thin and cheapy. $16 dollars for this?!? Nothing in here warrants the cost. I could understand if this was. Closer to $10

It seems like before they offered better portions and quality. Now, at best the taste is average and the protein portions are woeful. Service was fine. Subtracted stars for the awful portions given the cost. In Irvine, there's way way better Greek food for this price point. Do yourself a favor and go...

The food is good but the customer service is terrible. I phoned ahead and placed my order at 1:07pm. When I arrived at 1:16pm my order wasn't ready (which is fine, when she took my order she did say 15 minutes) so I paid for my food which was apparently a mistake. I proceeded to wait until 1:32pm to receive my order! It was SO bad that people who had placed their order at the location AFTER I paid for my food at 1:16pm actually recieved their food BEFORE me. When she finally did give me my order she just said "this is yours" and I looked at her suspiciously and said "Chicken souvlaki?" and she said yes. No apology. No explanation about what had happened. I have come here for lunch and dinner for 11 years. Greek Islands shares its location with many other small mom and pop restaurants, but it is always Greek Islands that I choose. They know me and even recognize my voice on the phone when I place my order for pick-up. I have tried about a third of their menu and have never been disappointed. I like their gyros and can vouch for their shawarma, salads, souvlakis, protein plates and Athenian plates. I think whatever you choose, you can't go wrong and the friendliness and competence of the people behind the counter...
