I absolutely love Japan House, however this was my first time going to this location & you unfortunately could not pay me to go back.
The food wasn’t as good as it has been at other locations, which honestly was not a big deal it happens & these things can definitely vary. But the service… Oh wow. The waitress was fine at the beginning. Though we were brought the wrong thing more than once, which with it being all you can eat is fine since I wasn’t paying for the incorrect plates. However, for me to say, “This item is incorrect. I didn’t order this, I ordered another menu item” & then for it not to be corrected is definitely a little odd to me. One of the incorrect items that was brought out was sushi, the waitress dropped a piece of sushi on the table, fine things happen I guess. But she then left with the plate of sushi, & left the other piece of sushi that she dropped on the table. With no way for us to clean it, as you only receive one paper napkin per person & are left with no extra plates. I receive the check, which has 3 adult meals with one child at the table. So I’m waiting for the waitress to come back to correct the bill before I pay, & wait literally 30 minutes when I’m about to get up & go seek someone out for a staff member who was not our waitress to come back to the table. She then tries to argue with me about a child being charged adult prices when it’s clearly outlined in their menu what their policy is on this. So she takes the bill to correct it, I had my card in hand but she leaves the check & takes not as long but still a while to come back for it. She runs my card- & doesn’t bring the card back with the receipt. That’s like half your job, how do you forget something like that?? I could be wrong, but it didn’t look like my card was left where it was ran either.
I could’ve gotten over the lower quality in the food but everything that makes this restaurant what it is, is just absolutely horrible. I am very glad that I have a superior location closer to me with no need to ever even consider going back to this one. I really hope they get it together though, with a lack of locations in this area the demand would be so much higher if the service at the locations we do have...
Read moreWe stumbled upon Japan House one afternoon, just looking for sushi. We didn’t know what to expect, but quickly learned it’s an all-you-can-eat sushi spot — a fun surprise since I’d always wanted to try one! The menu and pricing were explained clearly: a flat price for anything on the lunch menu (dinner has different options and pricing), and you can order up to 5 plates/items at a time.
We started with the spicy edamame, which wasn’t my favorite — it came coated in a heavy sriracha-style sauce, whereas I usually prefer a garlicky soy-based seasoning. Others might love it, but it wasn’t for me. From there, we ordered several different rolls. Each roll is about 4–6 pieces (half the size of a standard roll elsewhere), which made it easy to sample a wide variety. Most of the sushi was fresh, flavorful, and very enjoyable — we only came across a couple we didn’t care for, purely due to personal taste.
Lunch pricing was around $22 per person, which felt reasonable for the variety. However, we did run into a few challenges:
Service: This was our biggest frustration. Even with only one other table in the restaurant, my drink went empty four times, and it often took 15 minutes or more before anyone came back so we could order our next round. The staff seemed more focused on their own conversations than checking on tables.
Order mix-ups: Rolls were sometimes called out with the wrong names, leading to some unintentional roll-swapping at our table. Not a huge deal at an all-you-can-eat place, but a little confusing.
Declining quality: The first few rounds were excellent, but the last few rolls we received — including ones we had already ordered earlier — were noticeably less fresh and less flavorful.
Bottom line:
Food: Mostly great, especially in the earlier rounds.
Service: Needs improvement.
Would I return? Possibly — I’d give it one more try for the all-you-can-eat experience. But if the service issues and inconsistency happen again, I’d probably try another all-you-can-eat sushi place in the area...
Read moreI came here with my family on a Friday evening. I think Japan House Irving recently opened so my family and I were curious to check it out.
Interior: The interior is clearly new and has tall, pretty wooden geometric dividers. I love the colorful lanterns hanging from the ceiling in the entrance. There are a few more private eating areas with curtains where you can eat on little seats on the floor- we didn’t get to eat there but it looked cute.
Food: Each person in my family found something they loved to eat: My 5 year old loved the chicken fried rice, salmon, the edamame and the cool robot! My 3 year old nephew loved the steak udon noodles. My very pregnant sister loved everything with eel (but she was enviously eyeing the sashimi). My brother in law and I enjoyed trying all the items with spicy salmon, a variety of the signature rolls, shrimp tempura, and the grilled beef ribs. He also really liked the fried oysters. My mother loved the sashimi, the salmon skin hand roll and tempura tofu.
The whole feel reminded me of the pace of Spanish tapas, where you get to taste and try many small plates and enjoy a leisurely meal.
Drinks: The cocktails looked tasty, but since I was driving I passed. I had hot green tea which paired nicely with my food. My brother in law enjoyed the Japanese Asahi brand beer. My pregnant sister enjoyed a “no”jito.
Dessert: As far as I could see, it was only ice cream, and since I’m lactose intolerant, I had to pass on that which was fine since I was full from all the yummy savory dinner dishes.
I recently dropped $200 + at Eddie V’s Prime Seafood in Plano (also recently opened) for a seafood dinner, and that was only for 2 adults. For less than that, 4 adults and 2 kids were able to eat at Japan House. I think for the price point, Japan House offers a ton of variety in a relaxed atmosphere and is a great value. I would definitely return and recommend...
