I stopped by TX NY Famous Halal Gyro after seeing their TikTok videos. The food truck sells meat over rice and the videos showed $11 for chicken, lamb, or mixed platters, but when I went, the price was already raised to $12 even though theyâve only been open for about a month and half.
I ordered 4 platters and noticed they charged me an extra $1.25 + tax. I didnât take the receipt, but the only thing I can think of is I asked for red and green sauce on the side. If thatâs the case, they should be upfront about charging extra. I also asked for extra white sauce, but when I got home, it didnât seem like I got any more than usual. This comes across as a bit sneaky, especially with the quick price hike and unclear charges.
The wait was about 15 minutes since they were cooking fresh chicken, which was fine, but the parking lot was very full and seating is basically your car or the curb.
Taste-wise:
Compared to Shahâs, Iâd rate them 8/10 while Shahâs is a 10/10. My wife and son thought the taste was about the same, but portions at Shahâs are bigger. Green sauce here was actually hotter than the red sauce which was surprising. Definitely better than Halal Guys, though.
At the end of the day, for $12, Shahâs offers more food, better sauces without charging for sauce on the side, and actual indoor seating. I was leaning toward 4 stars, but dropped it to 3 because of the unclear extra charge and price hike.
Would I recommend? Probably not if you have other halal options nearby like Shahâs. But if you live close and just want a quick platter, itâs...
Read moreWe flew to DFW and was very late so wanted to grab something before getting to our hotel. We got a mix plate of chicken grill, chicken kabab and lamb gyro over rice, Philly steak for my daughter and Samosa for my wife. We got to our hotel and even the first bite of the meat over rice was amazing with the white garlic/ranch sauce. It was flavourful and amazing. My daughter also felt the âPhilly steak was pretty goodâ. Thatâs amazing coming from a 20 year old. I was also amazed at the story of the owner, Amir, who is 21 and just moved to Dallas area, bringing his family business to Dallas from Philly on his own. I have no doubt that this food standard and taste can get him a national chainâŚ. I did offer him to open in Cincinnati!!...
Read moreCame back from the nyc area roughly a week ago or two ago, craving halal cart food, this food completely satisfied my cravings so delectable the moment I put it into my mouth. It felt like there was an explosion of flavors. I definitely recommend this place to anybody who is craving something a little uncommon in the area or just want something familiar to what youâd get at a typical halal cart in New York City. In addition the employee is so kind and attentive making sure anything that you might want or not want on your plate is done. Wouldnât probably the best experiences Iâve ever had at any food establishment. Definitely go. Check it out if you are wanting to try something new or just want a...
