I really wanted to like Ed’s. Being from Foley and living in Tuscaloosa I’ve probably driven past it hundreds of times and never stopped. This past week I saw an article on AL.com about burger joints in the state and it was on the list so when I passed by tonight around 6pm I decided to stop.
I was ahead of the dinner rush and there was one guy eating at a table. I went to a window to order and the cashier was polite but couldn’t answer any of my questions without having to turn around and yell to ask a lady that I assume was the cook. I ordered a double cheeseburger, a hot dog, and the fried okra. I then waited and waited for almost 30 minutes. They had what seemed to be several call-in orders but my food didn’t come until I finally went to the window 25 minutes in and asked when it would be ready. They told me it was being prepped now and my name was called in the next couple minutes.
Already not thrilled about the excessive wait, I got to my car to eat and the entire okra order spilled because it was in a small paper boat covered in a napkin and placed in the bag on top of everything else. Half was luckily spilled in the bag so I was still able to eat it. The fried okra was fine. Basic pre-breaded frozen okra. Next up was my hot dog with onions. The wiener was red in color and the inside was white. Visually weird but tasted fine. Last was the burger. It looked great. Kind of like a Five Guys burger. Mine however was burnt. Exterior of at least one patty was beyond charred and I couldn’t taste much else. I ate it because I didn’t want to make another stop.
Overall, it was fine. I’m sure other things on the menu may have been better choices but when you’re known for the burgers and the burger is burnt it’s hard to forgive. The saving grace was that I only spent $14 for the three items. Jackson is a small town and I know it has limited options but I’d take a $7 meal from a Cook-Out any day over Ed’s....
Read moreA flash back in time when drive up hamburger stands were the thing ..I had to stop here when I drove by. I had no idea this place was here until I drove by. The girls who work in it are young and a bit giggly, they couldn't answer many questions but there was a more mature woman in the back who could answer stuff. I was informed Typically they fry fish in the same oil as fries but they have two different oil fryers so since I was there earlier my fries would not be contaminated with fish taste because no fish had been cooked in one of the fryers yet that day. The food was good and it's better than stopping at a fast food chain restaurant when on the road. I would stop by here again if...
Read moreI've passed by this place many times and finally decided to try it, and I regret not stopping sooner! I had a double bacon cheeseburger, onion rings, and sweet potato tots and it was all amazing! I can say that I will be stopping by Ed's more often going to or coming from the beach! The food is excellent, service is excellent and can't beat the prices! My brother in law got the steak sandwich, jalapeno poppers and onion rings and said it was all amazing as well. Great job...
