Social 21 Bistro — Restaurant in Jackson

My husband and I chose to celebrate our anniversary with something simple, so we went to Social. I ordered the Catfish plate, but what I was served was clearly Tilapia. I'm a country girlI know the look, feel, and taste of catfish, and this wasn’t it. The fish had a strong, unpleasant smell and left a horrible aftertaste.

I politely informed our waitress (who was very kind), and she brought it to her manager’s attention. He came by, addressed the issue, and took the plate off our bill. I appreciated that until we got the final check.

We were charged a $10 gratuity for just the two of us, even though the menu clearly says gratuity is only added for parties of 4 or more. Let me be clear this isn’t about the money. It’s about principle and how it was handled.

It honestly felt like the manager was upset that I called out the fish and wanted to get that money back some other way. That’s not professional. If your menu says catfish, then serve catfish because folks like me will know the difference. And if your policy says gratuity is for 4 or more, then honor your own policy.

Don’t let emotions get in the way of good service, and don’t punish your customers for holding you...

I am thrilled to share my experience at Social 21! From the moment I stepped inside, I was captivated. The food was nothing short of phenomenal—every dish was fresh and bursting with flavor. I brought my supervisor along, and it was the perfect venue to impress.

The live music was equally remarkable. The soulful tunes had me singing along, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that enhanced the entire dining experience.

I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly down to earth and personable. It was refreshing to connect with someone so passionate about their establishment.

I went today, Fri, April 5, 2024, and paid $15 to get in along with my wife ($15) as well. Service, Atmosphere, and DJ were great. The only thing they need work on is the food and more wait staff. Wife ordered Shrimp & Grits and I ordered Fish & Grits. I’m not a picky eater, therefore I ate my cold grits and fish. Wife returned her food. She wanted to order Chicken & Waffle, only to find out they only serve Red Velvet Waffle. Please be advised this is a Social Club rather than a Restaurant.
