Pros — Absolutely love the food at Zundo. Tastes fresh and authentic. I fell in love with ramen while living in New York and Zundo’s food is comparatively good. A great addition to Jackson’s restaurant scene.
— Spicy miso ramen, spicy house dumplings, and edamame with black garlic oil are my go-tos. — The decor is so nice and unique. — In-restaurant service is mostly solid.
CON— recently had an unpleasant interaction with a hostess — Gina (who should probably not be the front person due to her rudeness).
I am patient and mild-mannered, but this particular interaction bothered me enough to leave a review.
I ordered to-go, pre-paid and pre-tipped online. 5:18 was my pickup time. I walked in at 5:19 (the only customer at the time). Gina asked for my name, I gave it, she walked off. Came back with 2 to-go orders and said NOTHING to me. 3 more people are standing with me now. I attempt to ask for an update, she waved me off like a gnat. She continued tending to the other THREE people, still no update for me. I attempted to asked a second time, waved off again. I’m confused. Wouldn’t you update the customer who was there first? It takes 2 seconds to say, “Your order is almost done, thank you for your patience.” Instead, I stood in limbo as she dismissed my asks, avoided eye contact, and finally, after several minutes said, “it’s not ready”.
Moments later she brought out my order, no “thank you for waiting,” “we appreciate your business,” nothing. I asked for her name. “Why, is something wrong?” Me: What is your name? “Gina.” “Thank you,” I said and darted out, because I was in a hurry which is why I wanted the update on my order all along.
Not sure if she was having a bad day, but customer service matters. Kindness matters in life and especially in the restaurant business. I am a frequent customer now questioning returning due to this interaction. I hope Gina will consider a new approach with customers...
Read moreUpdate, Sunday, September 7th, 2025. Enjoyed lunch today with my beautiful bride. We both had the R1, Tonkotsu Ramen with medium spice. This is their signature ramen. It was beyond delicious! This is the one you will want to try the first time you visit. I added wood ear mushrooms, bean sprouts, and an extra serving of pork belly. It was absolutely scrumptious! We ordered a broth refill to go so we could enjoy this with some frozen noodles from Mr Chen's Chinese market. If you have not been here yet, be sure to give them a go and try the R1. You will not be disappointed! Update, Sunday, October 22, 2023: Enjoyed a very nice daddy-daughter date at this restaurant in the late afternoon. Everything was absolutely delicious! The flavor of this restaurant is quickly growing on me. I will most definitely be back. First visit: Nothing bad to say here! This was our first time to visit this restaurant. I will say this, if you are sensitive to cold temperatures, be sure to dress appropriately and bring a jacket. My lovely bride, that grew up on an island in the Philippines, was freezing so we opted for a table on the patio. It was a steamy 85 degrees outside and she was happy as a lark. I, on the other hand, was sweating bullets while enjoying my delicious Ramen with a spice level of 3, with a cup of hot green tea to add to the experience. Our waitress was very attentive and checked on us several times while we were eating. While Saigon restaurant in Flowood remains at the top of our list, this very nice establishment comes in at a very strong number two. If you have not tried them yet, be sure to...
Read more10.5 years is how long I've waited for a real ramen shop to come to Jackson, today is the day, and I could almost cry 🤗 The place is inviting, hip, and fun! Every detail from the textured walls, the cool wicker seats, the dim, but bright neon lighted bar, it was beautifully done, Little Tokyo in the sip! 😄
They had a lot of different Japanese finger bar food that we always look for. Takoyaki which is a savory pancake type ball with Chopped octopus (highly recommend), shrimp shumai which is like a steamed dumpling, tatsuta-age which is chicken marinated and lightly fried, and edamame. We both got ramen of course!
We always order tonkotsu everytime we get ramen, which is slow simmered, creamy, rich, pork bone broth...so of course he got the tonkotsu, I got the spicy miso. Ramen, when made right, is amazing. No, it's not instant ramen, no it's not Maruchan. These noodles are made in house, pork was tender, soy sauce marinated 6min egg is PERFECTION! They just opened today, so wait for food was slightly long, but that's normal, give them some time to work out the kinks 😊 They did an awesome job, if the food is good now, it'll be even better in time!!
