I love this place but there’s a few things I’m just so frustrated with.. For starters, every time I go I get an oxtail plate with mac & cheese, collards & cornbread. That’s almost $30 and I have a complaint every time 😩 My first time dining here I loved the flavor of the food but they gave me huge oxtail that were mostly fat and I can’t eat the fatty part ! When I got home and opened my plate I was so upset (I live over 30 minutes away btw) but the flavor of the food was so dang good I decided to give it another try.

The 2nd time I went they gave me the SMALLEST oxtail. It was only 6 very tiny oxtail. It was barely any meat & I was so sad because I got a big back lol I’m guessing they were trying to stretch what they had to fulfill all the orders (I ordered around 5:30pm) and I overheard someone say not to take anymore oxtail orders because they were running out so I put 2&2 together as to why my oxtail plate was skimpy 😂. but again, I was so disappointed !!! I would have rather gotten a refund than got what they gave me because it didn’t match the price I paid. Now I always check my plate before I leave…

The most recent time I went, the collards were DISGUSTING 🤢 I’m not gonna lie, they tasted like they came straight out of a can and were mushy and the flavor was so nasty I couldn’t eat them. They looked or tasted nothing like the collards I had before (because their collards are usually BUSSIN). All in all, I love the flavor of the food and I encourage everyone to try it because your experience could be different. I’m going to also include a photo of the fatty oxtail and the 2nd pic is for the comparison of the greens ! (I don’t have a pic for the small oxtail)

Also, trying to order over the phone is like pulling teeth sometimes but they are busy ! Oh and the cornbread, Mac and cheese & oxtail taste are 10/10...

We decided to try this place for the unique dishes but here's where it got confusing...menu says entree w/rice with 2 sides but each side was listed with a price. Naturally I assumed the pricing was ala carte...nope. ...my wife decided on the salmon with 2 sides, collard greens and cornbread. Greens are free, cornbread is not. Cashier rattles off the free sides but too quickly to comprehend so I said that's ok, just charge me for the cornbread...(paraphrasing) "I can't, the machine won't let me move on without another side." So I had her repeat the free sides again...I caught sweet potatoes so that's what went with...whew. Now it's my turn...I'll have the lamb chop dinner..."We don't have any"...I'll have the oxtail..."We don't have any"...I'll have the curry goat..."We don't have any"...So you don't have Lamb and shrimp either (not knowing how it is prepared, I thought the dish was separate from the lamb chops)..."We don't have lamb"... So what do you have?...she rattles off again a handful of items and I heard pork chops. Stopped her there and went with that to end the craziness. To my surprise the pork chops were very good, the free cabbage and sweet potato sides were very good. The salmon was grilled and tasty but a little too done for our liking. The collards were excellent. This had to be one of those one off days so if you have a chance to try it, I say do it you may have better luck with the menu item availability...

OMG! This”GEM” right here! Listen my husband who was visiting from Memphis,TN and myself from New Bern,NC decided for our “date”night we would leave New Bern and head to Jacksonville,NC. Before we headed out ,my husband “Goggled” and “Yelped”and we both agreed this is the place.Once we arrived and entered a young man behind the register greeted us with a smile.He was very polite and professional.Right away he informed us what he was out of which was perfect.I was so happy to hear that the lamb-chops were available…yes! I was only thinking about my own belly😊 once we ordered our food there was a beautiful Queen that came out and was so sweet and kind also. Not only will you get phenomenal service but the food was absolutely amazing! It was very flavorful and so good my husband ordered a to go pasta.This is a husband and wife power couple and they really know how to make you feel as if you were friends forever. I know for sure we will be back and I am a woman who was born with the gift of “sight”and the vibe I was receiving was intoxicating! This couple need to buckle up because I see not one but two more restaurants in their future.Please check them out because I promise you the atmosphere and food is...
