They are pretty much hit and miss. But the Margaritas are very good. My problem this time was pricing. I triple checked on the price of adding shrimp to my Pollo Loco. It was supposed to be for $3.00. You can go to an online menu and see it right now - $3.00. The menu I ordered from in house said three dollars. Why would my bill come back with a $5.99 charge? Not that it's a budget breaker, but how often do they "steal" 3 dollars from patrons? It adds up. Plus, the shrimp was way over cooked. I think I'll take another year or two's break from Casa Maria. Look at your receipts people, before you sign and tip and depart.

The staff seem like a lovely group of people. Now for my surf n’ turf it had no flavor and the wrap for the burrito was just poorly placed it literally fall apart when I picked it up it was almost like they were just rushing. Now I saw that to say when I picked my food up I saw a large group sitting at the table the chips were just okay and the salsa taste like salsa you get from a can. My food was also cold and I live close by and I picked it up about 10 mins before it even stated that it was supposed to be ready. Not sure if it was an off day for them but me personally I wouldn’t have them again.

Here in N Florida it's challenging finding decent and authentic Mexican food. I would say Casa Maria is as close to authentic as you can get in Jacksonville/St John's county. In my top 3 (given my bias and experience growing up in Southern Cali), would be 1. Mr Taco 2. Casa Maria 3. La Nopolera - Top 3 in Jacksonville is not too shabby. I will say that the biggest clue that this place is legit Mexican, is that during lunch time on any given day, the place is packed with large groups of Mexicans of all walks of trade coming in to enjoy - that's proof in of itself

I read the recent reviews and can't believe it . I've been here four times since they reopened and it gets worse every time today I ordered three specialty tacos and honestly they were the worst tacos I've ever eaten in my life my Hawaiian taco the pork was black all the way through so hard you couldn't bite through it , the shrimp taco did they claim is mayport shrimp were cold but they seem more like the Frozen farm raised shrimp you buy in Walmart and the American Taco the ground beef was flavorless , I started coming into Casa Maria when they first opened here I don't know 15 or 20 years ago and it was always good then for some reason they closed down for about a year or more and since they've reopened the food has never been the same and it's worse every time I went in there , the last time I ate here I told myself I never come back but my grandson wanted to go get Mexican food so I thought I'd try one more time but honestly it's the worst Mexican food I've ever tasted it's a disgrace they should close their doors or get new managers and new cooks or buy their food somewhere else cuz it is absolutely terrible I read some of the reviews before I posted this one and I just can't believe them they must be posting reviews themselves I couldn't recommend this place to anyone I vote this place worst Mexican food in Jacksonville maybe Florida I've never tasted any Mexican food this bad in my whole life and I'm 57 years old and whenever you tell them their food is not good they act like they know it and you're preaching to the choir they must make all their money off of liquor from people going up there drinking alcohol cause the food totally sucks doesn't matter what I get it's going to suck . The rice and french fries and sweet tea were good but they're specialty tacos were terrible absolutely terrible I used to love this place before they closed down for a year or two but since they reopened it just gets worse and worse I'll never go back again . This is the honest post not like the other ones you're going to read they have to be lies posted by people that...

I would give this place 0 stars if I could. Me and my husband used to love this place. We have went around 50 times. But recently around 4 months ago we noticed food no longer tasted the same. The chicken is now greasy and chewy. Tasted like it’s been reused for two weeks straight and the last time we went together we had a big pile of grease in our queso and the quesadilla. We mentioned it to our waitress and she put in the same queso microwave and handed it back to us. Which we refused to eat.. I tried being optimistic and coming back for take out. Which I bought the quesadilla appetizer. They gave me the wrong quesadilla. It was the small sized quesadilla that’s cheaper. I called the manager to complain and they argued with me saying I got the biggest size… When It looked around 8 inches. The quesadilla appetizer is supposed to be 12-14. ( This is not the first time this happened) I got frustrated and asked to speak to the owner. He was disrespectful and horrible to speak to. He insisted I was a liar and lied about the sizing and how his cooks are always right.. When in fact the new cooks made the food taste horrible… And apparently didn’t know which tortilla size to use. I argued back and fourth with the owner who knew nothing of what he was talking about. He couldn’t accept or comprehend criticism. The customer is always right and no one would make that up… The owner was so ill-mannered it was disgusting and appalling. I cannot believe that a grown man would raise his voice to me a woman over his staff making a mistake and blaming it on the customer. So unprofessional it’s revolting. Theres a language barrier on top of it, the staff mainly speaks Spanish. I’m sure this restaurant will be closed in 5 years from lack of management and consistency. I will be looking forward to what replaces this...

An out of town friend and I meet up for lunch about once a month. The last three months we have eaten at Casa Maria. Our first two experiences were very pleasant. Both times our servers were great- fun personalities and good service. I looked forward to eating there again.

Last week we met at Casa Maria for the third time. Our experience was completely different this time. The incredibly infrequent service we received by our waiter Angel was astonishingly bad.

The music was so loud that it was difficult to carry a conversation. No big deal, we asked if the volume could be lowered. Angel complied, but somehow it was raised again a few minutes later. When we finally managed to get Angel's attention again (red flag!), he actually refused to make eye contact with us. It was actually bizarre. He simply walked up to our table, stared at the wall, and walked away.

Angel spent the majority of our hour+ long visit in the booth next to us talking with a young woman. I don't know if it was his girlfriend, but it sure sounded like it. His behavior indicated that she was a higher priority than the customers- again, we had to flag him down to receive service multiple times. Our waters were not refilled a single time. Our dishes were not cleared. Our check came 30 minutes after we were finished eating.

Based on this experience, we will not be returning and I recommend that you eat elsewhere. There are a couple of other similar restaurants in Bartram Park that we'll check...
