Overall great experience! We started with the chips and queso, and of course drinks. The appetizer did NOT dissapoint. The chips were crispy and fresh tasting, the queso ooey gooey and yummy. We dipped our entrees in the queso for sure. My hubby ordered the Curious George burrito. I was suprised at his choosing because he can be picky about burritos, but he wanted something different. It had plantains in it. He said it was amazing because it helped balance out the spicy-ness (which he loves an abundance of anyway). We travel a lot and my husband is a burrito fanatic; this burrito was huge, the tortilla was great, it was wrapped perfectly, and the flavors hit. He hasn't found a burrito outside of our hometown that he actually would have again, and this one was a 5 star. I order the tacos; one steak and one chicken. I have to say, the chicken taco was one of the best pulled chicken tacos I've ever had, the aolio on top was delicious and I would give it 5 stars as well. It was the steal that had me. Usually I wouldn't lose a star from it, but not just once, but multiple times, there were un-chewable pieces, super tough in the taco, and the flavor of the beef just was not there; how ever, I could have eaten the toppings of the taco without the meat because that stuff is good). I did finish it, because I hate wasting steak, but it jsut wasn't there for me. As for the drinks, I ordered the Berry Berry Margarita with added pomegranate, and it was awesome!!! My husband order a tequila sunrise and he said it was one of the best he's had. Overall, wonderful place. We for sure want to come back next time we come see family. I'm gonna need the chips and queso...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI'd forgotten how cool this place is and just how great the food is. It's been at least 10 years since I've been. Located in Riverside near the corner of Park and King, it's in a line of several other restaurants. Parking can be tough in this area, but I scored a spot across the street in front of the church.
The place wasn't too busy since I hit it just before dinner time. Summere took excellent care of me and was very sweet and friendly. I wasn't sure if I wanted the enchiladas or empanadas, but she advised me that the empanadas were her absolute favorite. So empanadas it was! I then had to decide between several different kind and they all sounded delicious! I settled on the Latin beef and the chicken curry even though I wasn't sure about curry in an empanada. For sauces, I went with Summere's suggestion of the jalapeno ranch after she advised it wasn't too spicy.
The food was so so good. The beef empanada was my favorite until I got to the chicken curry empanada. The empanada itself was fresh and flaky with great flavor. Then the fillings just elevated it that much more. The dipping sauce brought just a tiny bit of heat, so it was perfect for me. The empanadas also came with rice and black beans, and turns out they were better than any of the Mexican restaurants I frequent. I wish I could have eaten more, but I was full before I even made it halfway through the meal.
After chatting a bit more with Summere about the menu and the things I'd had before, I was excited to find out that you can order a side of Mexican street corn instead of the whole appetizer. Now I'm planning my next trip back. Enchiladas and...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI was not impressed at all which is a shame because based off the great reviews, I was expecting something totally different. The service was not great from the moment I walked in the door. No greeting, no eye contact, nothing. The manager I believe he was, was just sitting at the bar with a laptop while starting at his phone? Didnāt make a single attempt to greet any customers or ensure everyone was doing ok as the restaurant was not crowded at all and this was 12:30 today. There was also some kind of awkward friction between 2 of the waitresses and another waitress. One of those āthis is my section!ā Scenarios where the waitresses are caddy to each other their whole shift. The food, which is what I was really there for, did not taste good. Period. It looked great and it came out fast and was a low price but it was literally just thrown together and topped with a cheap tasting queso. Iāve definitely had better burritos from Moeās and thatās saying a lot because Moeās is horrendous lol. Whatās crazy is the food looks delicious, but taste so whack!
Iāve learned not to come back to this place, regardless of how many other positive experiences others have had here. I did not experience that and will not be returning. There are WAY better options to choose from if you want a burrito or a burger. Tipped as normal and asked for a box to go! Thanks but...
