Order: Spicy tuna and spicy salmon roll Price: $9 Pros: Fairly inexpensive for sushi, food ready quickly Cons: Sushi wasn't all that amazing, not a lot of seating if you wanted to have a sit down dinner, no full sushi menu online
Thoughts: As often happens I was working valet at a nearby event and decided to give this place a try after reading to reviews. I called in the order and walked over to pick it up, so I can't really speak to their customer service, though they were friendly in the phone. I ordered two rolls and honestly wasn't very impressed, they weren't bad by any means just somewhat bland. The flavors didn't jump out at me like great sushi does; when I eat sushi I really want the fish to be the star of the dish and here, it was like a backup dancer. Sure it's fine, but I don't want fine, I want freakin awesome.
I do want to point out that other reviews have mentioned a "red menu" where the chefs puts daily specials and that this menu is really where the awesome rolls are. While this might be true, it doesn't help me if I want to call in an order for pickup because I can't see their menu :( This point is a bit balanced by the fact that their sushi is very inexpensive.
I’d like to and come back and try some other dishes (possibly off the “red menu”). At that point I might update the review, but for now I’d just call this...
Read moreFavorite sushi spot in town. They have some of the best spring rolls around and they offer all kinds of different things on their menu. I love the sushi sooo much! It's great raw but even more delicious served hot and fried in my opinion. Tasty Sashimi! Hot tea! This place even carries Lucky Buddha beer (very fun Buddha shaped bottle, definitely worth saving one of these) The owners used to own the two Magic Sweet House, which was an amazing ice cream shop that is deeply missed by the locals and all who remember it. I think that sometimes the Hong Kong waffle and some other magic sweet house items are still served here, but I'd call ahead and ask before getting your hopes up. Sumo Sushi rarely disappoints. If you go into your dining experience with an open mind and an empty tummy I'm sure you will love it. One thing I have to mention, however, is that since early 2020 Sumo stopped offering Dine-In. They offer takeout and they have 2 or 3 tables for dining outside. I do hope they eventually reopen the dining room. It has a very relaxing atmosphere and I miss watching the fish and the shows they would have playing on the television. Please reopen the dining room...
Read moreI got sick about 5-6 hours after eating some salmon rolls I bought using uber eats services. The sushi itself tasted great and didn't seem to have any bad quality ingredients, however when I woke up and started throwing up violently, all I could taste was the rotting fish. When I called them with my concerns they just dismissed me saying their chef has been in the game for 20+ years, not even once suggesting that they may be at fault here, I don't want anyone to get in trouble, nor am I suing or pursuing legal action of any kind. I just want them to quality check all their ingredients. I was throwing up on and off for about three hours and have diarrhea currently. They confirmed that their sushi grade fish is frozen at the correct temperatures to ensure its freshness and the quality of the food. Sushi was the only thing I ate past 12 yesterday and I woke up at 4am sick as all he'll. Granted the sushi was great so it may have been the sauces or maybe someone with the flu had touched my bag or it could have possibly been the uber driver who was sick herself. Just please make sure you guys check all your dates. Two stars because I...
