Maple Street Biscuit Company- Jacksonville, FL- 4 Stars
Finding myself in the teeming metropolitan area of Jacksonville, FL I began to hear some rumbly from my tumbly and knew it was time to dine. Punching my coordinates into my ever-present random name generator I was greeted with the blinking name of Maple Street Biscuit Company. Always in the mood for biscuits, I set course and soon arrived at my destination.
My editor has informed me that Maple Street Biscuit Company came from very humble beginnings in 2012 to now encompass a small chain comprising 36 locations throughout the South East and as far west as the Lone Star State. Not bad considering the entire country was shut down for about 2 years there.
Glancing at the menu the first thing that hit me was that while I am living in an area where the bulk of the population is relatively poor (Palm Bay) and the wealthier areas consist of engineers who have zero creative brain power, we don't get restaurants like this in Bree VARD county. The menu was creatively out of this world. You had Frittaffles (frittata like waffles?), biscuits that wowed, waffles with flavors like Asiago and bacon, a mimosa bar and of course plenty of coffees. Sadly, I was remiss in taking note of and subsequently forgot my server's name, but rest assured they were on the ball and left nothing lacking in their service. Anyway, I placed an order for the Farmer Biscuit with a side of fresh-squeezed OJ.
After a few minutes, my server returned and as I snapped a few pictures I was mesmerized by the odoriferous delicacies meeting my olfactory sense. Wow, if this tasted half as good as it smelled, I was about to be in breakfast paradise. To begin with, the biscuit itself was obviously homemade and not a frozen heat-n-serve from a food supply company (read what you will into that). It was flaky, dense and a pure delight on the palate. The chicken is farm fresh and dredged in the most remarkably flavorful dredge I have yet encountered in my culinary adventures. The bacon. Wow. The bacon is like nothing I have ever been served. This is the only bacon I've had that is on par with the eponymous COVID victim Darci's Bacon Blues.
The Big Boy says, "For farm-fresh breakfast foods and out-of-this-world bacon, I am sure any location of Maple Street Biscuit Company will do ya grand!"...
Read moreThis delectable breakfast sandwich is a masterpiece of textures and flavors, with each layer contributing to an orchestra of taste. The biscuit, remarkable in its flakiness, provides a buttery foundation, which is then enhanced by the bold umami of the spicy shiitake gravy—its rich earthiness tinged with just the right amount of heat. Nestled within this indulgence is the fried chicken breast; its exterior crisped to golden perfection while the inside remains succulently tender. The symphony of the sandwich continues with a fried egg, its yolk a molten core of richness that cascades through the layers, mingling seamlessly with the smokiness of the bacon, which adds a satisfying crunch. Each bite is a well-composed mélange of comfort and complexity, making this breakfast sandwich not just a meal, but a culinary experience to savor.
The atmosphere in which this sandwich is served mirrors the community-centric spirit of a family gathering. The servers, with their extraordinary niceness and attentiveness, bestow upon the establishment a sense of belonging. Their graceful balance between self-service efficiency and personal care crafts an environment as welcoming as a hometown diner, where every face is familiar and every greeting is heartfelt. This breakfast sandwich, served in such a convivial setting, transcends the ordinary, becoming a tribute to both gastronomic excellence and the enduring bonds...
Read moreThere is nothing not to like about Maple Street Biscuit Company. I've been to Maple Street several times in Savannah and Charleston, but this was my first time at the San Marco Blvd, Jacksonville location. Everything was excellent! I ordered the Five & Dime (my favorite), a flaky biscuit filled with fried chicken, crispy bacon, cheese, fried egg, and sausage gravy. Man, their gravy is the best! My wife ordered breakfast tacos, which must be a rather recent addition to the menu. She couldn't stop raving about how good they were! My granddaughter had biscuits with homemade jam and enjoyed every bite.
The atmosphere at Maple Street is casual and comfortable. Diners order at the counter and then seat themselves. Beverages, including coffee, are obtained from a handy beverage bar. The coffee was hot, fresh, and delicious. My only minor issue with this Maple Street location is that most of the tables are quite large. We got one of the few tables that had seats for four, but beside us was a large rectangular table that was big enough to serve an army! Great idea for large groups, but I'd like a few more four-seaters.
We loved our food, found the employees to be courteous and helpful, and the bathrooms to be clean. If I'm ever in the Jacksonville area around breakfast time again, Maple Street will be on my short list of places to go. It's...
